Patrik Sjögren Blends the Art of Damascus Steel with the Elegance of Swiss Horlogerie
In December 2021, Louis Erard and GoS Watches were brought together by Manuel Emch, the visionary behind Louis Erard's strategic revival and creative transformation. He found a kindred spirit in Patrik Sjögren, watchmaker and founder of the Swedish atelier GoS, renowned for its mastery of Damascus steel.
Together, they envisioned a timepiece that would seamlessly blend the essence of both Maisons: the technical precision and aesthetic refinement of the Swiss Jura, married to the artistry of a Swedish forge, where Damascus steel is meticulously crafted into mesmerizing patterns through an almost alchemical process.
After three years of dedication, the result is an extraordinary timepiece, the Louis Erard Regulator x GoS, a limited series of 178 pieces, each infused with the resolute spirit of the North. This collaboration marks a first for Louis Erard, merging its iconic regulator design with the age-old forging technique of crafting a Damascus steel dial.
Damascus steel is legendary for its distinctive wavy patterns, created by folding and forging multiple layers of steel. Known for its exceptional strength, toughness, and sharpness, this ancient material was historically used in the Middle East and Levant for crafting swords and blades. In haute horlogerie, Damascus steel is often reserved for cases, but Louis Erard and GoS push the boundaries further, using it to create a uniquely textured dial for their latest collaboration.
The watch is housed in a polished stainless steel case, composed of three pieces a signature feature of the Louis Erard Regulator collection. It measures 39 mm in diameter, with a lug-to-lug length of 45.90 mm and a thickness of 12.82 mm, ensuring a balanced and elegant profile on the wrist. The crown bears GoS’s signature design, adding a subtle yet distinctive touch.
A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial, while the caseback features a tinted sapphire crystal, offering a glimpse of the movement within. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters, and the engraved caseback proudly displays “Limited Edition 1 of 178.”
The Damascus steel dial is the heart of this timepiece, ensuring that no two watches are ever alike. Dial designed by Patrik Sjögren (GoS) according to his artistic identity, Louis Erard and GoS symbols transferred in white at 3 o'clock,, Forged by Conny Persson and meticulously hand-finished by Patrik Sjögren, each dial undergoes a proprietary bath treatment that enhances contrast brightening gray tones and deepening blacks, creating an unparalleled sense of depth.
Inspired by the intricate veins of trees found in both Swedish and Swiss forests, the dial’s organic pattern is shaped by the unpredictable nature of the forging process. Floating above this one-of-a-kind canvas are three striking blued steel hands, arranged in the classic regulator configuration. GoS’s signature aesthetic is further reflected in the triskelion-inspired small seconds counter at 6 o’clock and the sharply notched, rhodium-plated hour and minute tracksm a hallmark of the brand’s design language.
At its core, the Louis Erard Regulator x GoS is powered by the Sellita SW266-1 caliber, an automatic regulator movement operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), delivering a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is elegantly decorated and features a specially designed openworked oscillating weight, adorned with a black lacquered Louis Erard emblem.
The timepiece is presented on a nature-inspired salmon leather strap, a first for Louis Erard, paying homage to GoS’s Nordic origins, nestled between the Baltic and North Seas. The strap is secured with a polished stainless steel pin buckle and comes with an additional black grained calf leather strap
Is it a limited edition to 178 pieces only, priced at CHF 4,250 which is equivalent approximately to 17,785 AED.
