Introducing Aramedes, the company's journey from Zurich to Mecca

The company that combines Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship with advanced technology

 on April 8, 2016 over a lunch meeting in the a Restaurant in Zürich Pascal Stübi and Tom Morf discuss an idea of classic timepieces into the digital age, they said what if we take everything we love about Swiss watchmaking and advanced technology and combining them as only we can a mechanical movements, high tech, and classic design, all intelligently integrated to form a watch that is as beautiful as it is clever. The idea Building a bridge between different cultures The founders wanted to stir up the Swiss watch industry Accepting the technical challenge.
The name of the company, Aramedes, originated from the founders' highest respect and appreciation for Islamic culture, which boasts a rich history and noteworthy achievements in literature, philosophy, science, medicine, mathematics, and art. The significance of sunrise and sunset as essential elements in the Muslim world is crucial for those who observe their spiritual and religious practices on a daily basis. Therefore, the meaning behind the name Aramedes is as follows:

Ara = Arabian Peninsula (the cradle of Islam)

Me = Mecca / Medina (the two holy cities)

Des = Design / Engineering / Switzerland

Aramedes offers two distinctive collections: the Mecca Collection and the Zürich Collection. While they may appear similar at first glance, one can easily differentiate between the two collections by examining the dial. In the Zürich Collection, the dial features the lion logo at 12 o'clock, a distinguishing characteristic absent in the Mecca Collection. This suite of watch features that push the industry in a new direction. The classically designed timepieces of the Mecca Collection feature three very special functions made possible only through our unprecedented combination of traditional mechanical watchmaking and advanced technology.

Mecca watches are crafted to support Muslims in the practice of their faith. These classically designed timepieces feature up to three very special functions: Qibla (Mecca compass) so Press the button at 2 o’clock and the watch will calculate and show you the direction to Mecca based on your current location. Salat (prayer time indicator) Set your prayer time convention and the Salat display will always show your next prayer time. The watch has an alarm function. When it is time, gentle vibrations will alert you. and Sawm (Ramadan fasting indicator) Depending on your location, the watch calculates sunrise and sunset and displays this information precisely on the 24 h display at 6 o’clock.

The correct display of these functions depends on the individual location and the position of the sun. This information cannot be displayed with a purely mechanical movement. Therefore, in addition to a classic mechanical movement, the watches in the Mecca Collection also contain an electronic component: The AraTec 1 Module developed and patented by Aramedes.

The patented AraTec 1 Module houses a magnetic compass, a BLE RISC processor, a three-axis accelerometer, a linear resonant actuator, a vibration module and up to three step motors. The perfect interaction with the mechanical movement results in the unique functionality of the Aramedes Mastertimer watches
