Celebrating the 50th anniversary with three limited editions
Maurice Lacroix was founded in 1975 in the picturesque village of Saignelégier, nestled in the heart of the Franches-Montagnes. The Swiss brand has always drawn creative energy from its surroundings. Over the past five decades, Maurice Lacroix has built a legacy of horological excellence, most notably with the AIKON, which has become an icon among modern watch enthusiasts. Now, to mark its 50th anniversary, the brand pays tribute to its roots with the new 1975 Legacy collection.
Consisting of three limited-edition models, the collection captures the spirit of the brand’s birthplace through curated color palettes and a shared Vagues du Jura dial motif, a textured pattern that echoes the rolling hills of the Jura mountains.
The first in the trilogy is the 1975 Automatic Saignelégier Blue, a watch that revives a historic dial color from Maurice Lacroix’s archive. The 40mm stainless steel case combines brushed and polished finishes and remains slim at just 9mm thick. An exhibition caseback reveals the automatic ML155 calibre, which delivers a robust 56-hour power reserve. Decorative finishes such as perlage and colimaçon elevate the movement, while the rotor is adorned with the Vagues du Jura motif.
The blue dial features the signature texture that plays beautifully with light, adding depth and sophistication. Polished dauphine hands and facetted trapeze indices mark the time, while the date at 3 o’clock appears within a silver-framed window, its blue disc carefully matched to the dial. Paired with a blue leather strap and equipped with the brand’s Easy Strap Exchange system, this model is limited to 888 pieces and priced at CHF 1,400 (approximately AED 6,500).
Next comes the 1975 Automatic Day Date Sapin Green, a model that turns its gaze toward the forest. The deep green hue of the dial draws inspiration from the fir trees that surround the village of Saignelégier, with the familiar Jura motif appearing once again beneath a vintage-style box sapphire crystal. Like its sibling, the watch features dauphine hands, trapeze indices, and a date display at 3 o’clock. In addition, it includes a day window just below the 12 o’clock marker.
The case maintains the 40mm diameter but increases slightly in height to 10mm. A solid caseback is engraved with a bucolic scene depicting two horses standing beneath fir trees, a nod to the native Franches-Montagnes breed. Inside beats the ML168 movement, which offers a 38-hour power reserve. This version is fitted with a five-row stainless steel bracelet and also features the Easy Strap Exchange system. Limited to 500 pieces, it is priced at CHF 1,690 (approximately AED 7,900).
Rounding out the collection is the 1975 Automatic GMT Silver Mist. This model evokes the peaceful atmosphere of Jura’s early mornings, when the landscape is cloaked in fog and the hills reflect muted silver tones. That essence is captured in the dial’s textured motif, this time accented with warm golden hues, thanks to PVD 4N-finished indices and hands. A fourth, red-tipped GMT hand allows for tracking a second time zone, making this piece ideal for the modern traveler. The date once again appears at 3 o’clock.
Like the Day Date model, it features a solid engraved caseback and measures 40mm in diameter and 10mm in thickness. It houses the ML165 movement, which offers a 56-hour power reserve, and is presented on a black imitation alligator leather strap with a stainless steel deployant buckle. This edition is limited to just 200 pieces and is priced at CHF 1,990 (approximately AED 9,200).
