A watch that simplifies the brand’s unconventional time display
Genus, an independent brand based in Geneva, was founded by Catherine Henry and Sébastien Billières. When the first GNS1 debuted in 2019, GENUS aimed to introduce a timepiece with a distinct character, offering a revolutionary method of timekeeping. Within just a year of its inception, the brand's inaugural timepiece clinched the prestigious Mechanical Exception Prize at GPHG.
Now, following the introduction of various iterations of Genus's debut watch, such as the Genus Rainbow Green and the Genus Dragon Collection, the brand unveils the GNS2 Launch Edition. This latest release maintains the brand's momentum while remaining true to its previous creations. However, it features an elegant, sporty-chic design with a simplified time display that is much easier to read, without compromising on innovation.
The GNS2 features a 43mm case crafted from grade 5 titanium, measuring 18.8mm in thickness, including the big domed sapphire crystal. The case is sandblasted and adorned with a specially crafted glass-box-style sapphire crystal, designed to minimize distortions by eliminating edges. All the exterior elements like the crown are fashioned from titanium, except the case back made from sapphire crystal, ensuring 30m of water resistance.

The dial of the Genus GNS2 is divided into two sections, each mirroring the other with symmetry. Operated by two open worked wheels arranged in a figure 8 configuration by the matte black base of the two ten-minute dials juxtaposed with their satin-brushed and rhodium-plated finishes, resulting in a captivating interplay of light. The minute is indicated by the primary blue arrow traversing across the center of the dial, following Genus's signature 8 pattern. As for the hour indication, traditional hands are eschewed. Instead, on the GNS2, the hour is uniquely depicted by three additional small origami arrows, seemingly floating around the periphery of the dial. This differs from the GNS1, where the hour was denoted by small, block-shaped indices rotating along the outer edge of the dial.
The Genus GNS2 is driven by the 260Rh-2 caliber, a movement also featured in the GNS1, yet representing a significant evolution in terms of aesthetics like the regulating organ, distinguished by its blue hue, complementing the dial’s aesthetics. Crafted in-house with attention to detail, offering a 50-hour power reserve and operating at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). Each component is designed and hand-decorated by Sébastien Billières in close collaboration with his sister Sarah. Characterized by a combination of various polishes and intricate straight-grain finishes, particularly challenging to achieve on larger surfaces, every part interacts with light in a distinct manner, emanating a captivating radiance.
The Genus GNS2 offers a choice of luxurious materials for its straps, including alligator, saddle-finish calfskin, or padded and stitched rubber, allowing for personalized comfort and style. Additionally, you have the option to select their preferred color to suit their individual tastes. The watch features a grade 5 titanium folding clasp upon request, providing both durability and convenience for discerning wearers. The watch is limited to 18 pieces and priced at CHF 58,250 which is equivalent to AED 245,000.
