The Latest Chapter in the Extreme Series: A wild Design for the High-Precision Chronograph
The Defy collection is one of Zenith’s most iconic watch lines, known for its bold designs. Launched in the 1970s, the collection quickly gained recognition for its combination of durability and advanced mechanics. One key milestone in the history of the Defy collection was the incorporation of the El Primero chronograph movement, which was first introduced in 1969. Over the years, the collection has continued to evolve, keeping pace with developments in watchmaking technology while preserving its iconic design and bold personality. Zenith has introduced several versions of this collection, including the “Revival A3648” watch. Today, we present the latest addition, the “Extreme Jungle” watch, inspired by the forests and the stripes and colors of the tiger.
The watch comes with a 45mm titanium case with a height of 15.4mm. The case angles are brushed, with polished bevels on the case flanks and bezel, enhancing its bold aesthetic.
What truly sets this model apart is the use of Tiger's Eye gemstone on the chronograph pushers and the 12-sided bezel, adding a unique, natural touch. The watch is equipped with a screw-down crown, ensuring water resistance up to 200 meters. A sapphire crystal protects both the dial and the movement, making it durable enough for both everyday wear and more extreme conditions.
The dial of the watch is a striking example of bold design. The openworked, green-tinted sapphire crystal creates a jungle-like backdrop, complementing the multi-layered structure of the dial. The three sub-dials, framed in orange and black tiger stripes, further emphasize the animalistic theme, with the 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, the 60-second totalizer at 6 o'clock, and the small seconds at 9 o'clock.
Above the central hands, a linear power reserve indicator is neatly. The dial also features a peripheral 1/100th-of-a-second chronograph track, rhodium-plated indices, and hour and minute hands filled with beige Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in low light. Completing the design, the central chronograph seconds hand is adorned with a star-shaped counterweight, adding a unique touch.
The watch is powered by the in-house El Primero 9004 movement, a high-performance chronograph calibre that blends precision and functionality. It features a dual regulating organ, with one mechanism dedicated to timekeeping at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), and another for the chronograph, which operates at an extraordinary 360,000 vibrations per hour (50 Hz), enabling an impressive 1/100th of a second accuracy. With 293 components, the movement ensures a minimum power reserve of 50 hours.
It comes with a titanium bracelet, and green rubber strap with titanium folding buckle and black velcro strap. The watch is a limited edition of 50 pieces, and priced at EUR 28,000 approximately equivalent to AED 112,000.
