An unexpected acquisition of one of the most famous watch platforms
Watches of Switzerland, the UK’s largest luxury watch retailer, which also operates in the US, announced today the acquisition of Hodinkee, one of the world’s leading watch platforms. This acquisition will allow the Group to further expand its market share, particularly in the U.S. market.
The Watches of Switzerland Group is the UK's largest luxury watch retailer, operating in both the UK and US with a portfolio of renowned brands: Watches of Switzerland, Mappin & Webb, Goldsmiths, Mayors, Betteridge, and Analog:Shift. With the addition of Hodinkee, the Group further expands its reach.
Upon completion of the transaction, the Group will integrate Hodinkee's existing commercial operations, including its exclusive luxury watch limited edition collaborations, with all retail traffic being directed to Watches of Switzerland's U.S. ecommerce platform. This will provide the Group with access to a dedicated and highly engaged luxury watch audience. Additionally, the Group will incorporate Hodinkee's insurance agency operations, which collaborates with the global insurance Chubb, offering protection services for luxury watches and jewelry.
Ben Clymer, Hodinkee's founder, will return to oversee Hodinkee's operations for the first time since stepping down as CEO in December 2020. Hodinkee will maintain its editorial independence as a premier media organization, safeguarding its impartial journalism and ensuring the continued production of exceptional editorial content delivered in Hodinkee's distinct voice and perspective. The company's headquarters in New York City will remain at its current location, and all staff members will transition to the Watches of Switzerland Group.
