Marking the brand’s 240th anniversary with two of the rarest complications
L.Leroy is one of the oldest names in Haute Horlogerie, with roots tracing back to 1785. Founded in Paris, France, the maison has, over its 240-year history, become synonymous with precision, elegance, and technical mastery. Its timepieces have graced the wrists of European royalty, including Emperor Napoleon I and his family.
This year marks a major milestone, the brand’s 240th anniversary, celebrated with the unveiling of the Osmior “Bal du Temps.” The Osmior name derives from a historic gold-based alloy once used by L.Leroy for its grand complications. Today, the collection embodies the maison’s neoclassical spirit, expressed through elegant proportions, refined finishing, and a dedication to traditional mechanical artistry.
The watch is offered in three variations, 18K 5N red gold, platinum, and grade 5 titanium. Its round, tambour-shaped case measures 43 mm in diameter and 13.60 mm in thickness, including the domed sapphire crystal. The polished case is distinguished by chamfered lugs and a fluted crown engraved with the brand’s double “L” logo.
On the reverse, a sapphire crystal is framed by a ring combining frosted and polished relief engravings. Through this transparent back, the chiming hammers of the minute repeater and the intricate movement can be admired in action. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.
The dial is conceived as a stage where the mechanics of time are revealed. At the center, levers and gears perform in harmony, while at 6 o’clock a flying tourbillon takes its place. Time is indicated by a single central hour hand, recalling the maison’s historic “à tact” watches, while minutes are expressed acoustically via the minute repeater, activated by a discreet slide at 9 o’clock.
Each metal variation is paired with its own character, the red gold version features an anthracite sunray hour ring, gold numerals, and a gold-plated hand; the platinum edition comes with a light blue ALD-treated hour ring, white numerals, and a rhodium-plated hand; while the titanium model displays a rhodium-plated silver ring, black numerals, and a vivid ALD-treated blue hand. The openworked architecture highlights classical decorations such as circular graining and polished screw heads, while the tourbillon bridge, shaped as the interlaced double “L” emblem, provides a signature flourish.
At its heart beats the proprietary calibre L601SQ, a hand-wound movement assembled in Geneva and composed of 321 parts. It runs at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and delivers a 90-hour power reserve. The movement unites two of the most prestigious complications in watchmaking, a minute repeater with two polished hammers that strike gongs to indicate the hours, quarters, and minutes, and a flying tourbillon that completes a full rotation every 60 seconds.
The watch is fitted with a black alligator leather strap, featuring large scales on the exterior and smaller ones on the lining, secured by a folding clasp bearing the interlaced double “L,” crafted from the same material as the case. This release will be produced in a limited production and the prices are available upon request.
