Celebrating 100 Years of Dual Time Functionality
In 1925, Longines unveiled the Zulu Time watch, equipped with a dual time zone function. It quickly became an essential tool for aviators and navigators, who relied on precise timekeeping for safe and efficient communication. This rectangular timepiece, with its classic design, laid the conceptual foundation for the modern Zulu Time models we see today.
A distinctive feature of the original was the maritime flag on the dial, representing the letter “Z” an indication of Zulu Time, the military term for the zero meridian time in Greenwich, London. This reference point is now known as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
The Longines Spirit Zulu Time collection made its modern comeback in 2022, initially with 42 mm stainless steel models. In 2023, the brand introduced 39 mm variants, including versions adorned with gold elements.
The following year saw the debut of a titanium edition. Now, in 2025, the collection expands once again with five new references among them, a special commemorative model distinguished by a rose gold bezel.
While this new model features a stainless steel case, it maintains the same dimensions as the previous titanium edition: 39 mm in diameter and 13.50 mm thick. The case combines satin-brushed surfaces with polished accents, and a screw-in crown ensures water resistance to 100 meters.
The bidirectional bezel is another standout element. It’s fitted with a circular-brushed insert capped with 200 microns of 18K rose goldة marking a first for the collection and displays 24-hour graduations.
The solid caseback, secured with six screws, is engraved with “1925–2025” in honor of the centenary. For the first time in the collection, it also features a sapphire crystal insert, offering a view of the movement.
The matte black dial retains the distinctive design language of the Spirit collection, with applied gilt indices and Arabic numerals. A golden printed minute track frames the dial, while a date aperture at 6 o’clock blends seamlessly into the black background. At 12 o’clock, the brand’s winged hourglass logo is paired with five stars, symbolizing superior chronometric performance.
A matte black GMT hand with a red arrow tip complements the red “Zulu Time” inscription. For low-light legibility, the numerals, all four hands, and the bezel’s 12 o’clock marker are treated with white Super-LumiNova that glows blue in the dark.
Powering the watch is the Longines caliber L844.4, a COSC-certified chronometer. This self-winding movement features a silicon balance spring for enhanced magnetic resistance. Operating at 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), it offers a robust 72-hour power reserve. The rotor is PVD-coated in rose gold and engraved with a world map featuring a vertical Prime Meridian.
The Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925 is presented on a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding safety clasp and quick-release system. Inside the special-edition box, an additional black NATO-style strap is included. The retail price is EUR 4,500, approximately AED 18,710.
