The First Watch in the Overseas Collection Equipped with a Minute Repeater
Vacheron Constantin’s passion for grand complications continues to grow. After unveiling the world’s most complicated wristwatch at the latest Watches and Wonders, and previously holding the record for the most complicated pocket watch, the Maison now turns its attention to its sporty and iconic collection. The new Overseas Grand Complication Openface is the result of a long and meticulous process aimed at integrating a grand complication mechanism into a refined yet robust case. The watch combines three of haute horlogerie’s most revered complications, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, and a tourbillon, within a sport-chic design.
An Overseas equipped with a minute repeater isn’t an obvious pairing. Originally created as a high-end sports watch with an integrated bracelet, the Overseas was designed to endure the rigors of daily wear. The minute repeater, on the other hand, is a delicate, sophisticated mechanism that requires careful handling. That said, the Overseas has never shied away from expressing a more luxurious side, and this time, it does so with spectacular ambition.
Vacheron Constantin maintains the distinctive design of the "Overseas" collection, featuring a sandblasted bezel and a case that blends polished and beveled finishes, seamlessly integrated with a titanium bracelet. The watch is large in size, measuring 44.5 mm in diameter, just 0.5 mm smaller than the most complicated wristwatch in the world, which the brand launched last month. As for the thickness of the Overseas Grand Complication Openface, it stands at 13.1 mm, but the use of titanium gives it a noticeably light feel.
A minute repeater slide is positioned at 8 o’clock, while the crown remains at 3 o’clock. Sapphire crystals on both the front and back offer clear views of the intricate movement inside, and the caseback is engraved with Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary emblem. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The sapphire dial reveals the grey and silver-toned components of the movement, enhanced by the anthracite NAC galvanic treatment on the bridges and the rhodium-plated finish on the wheels. White gold hour markers are applied to the transparent dial, while the minutes track, tourbillon aperture ring, and sub-dial rings for the calendar indications feature a blue metallised treatment, engraved with crisp markings.
The perpetual calendar is laid out with the date at 3 o’clock, the day at 9 o’clock, and the month at 12 o’clock. A subtle leap year indicator is integrated just to the right of the month sub-dial. All hands are crafted from white gold, with the hour and minute hands as well as the indices treated with blue-emission Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility in low light.
Powering the Overseas Grand Complication Openface is the Calibre 2755 QP, a hand-wound movement with a 58-hour power reserve, operating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz). This emblematic movement, developed from the innovations behind the Tour de l’Île watch introduced in 2005, brings together three major complications in one exceptional calibre.
Comprising 602 components and measuring 33.30mm in diameter, Calibre 2755 QP reflects Vacheron Constantin’s pinnacle of watchmaking expertise. The movement features an elegant power reserve indicator visible through the caseback. Its finishing is exemplary: mirror-polished repeater hammers, beveled and satin-brushed bridges, circular satin-brushed wheels, and bridges adorned with traditional Côtes de Genève.
The watch comes with a titanium bracelet featuring a folding clasp, along with two additional straps: one in blue alligator leather and another in blue rubber. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Grand Complication Openface is a limited edition, and the price is available upon request.
