Introducing Mido Unveils the New Ocean Star 200C

A rose gold-coated case and green dial inspired by a sunset over a mountain lake

Mido has been renowned for its pioneering water-resistance innovations since the 1930s. With a focus on producing functional and durable timepieces, the brand introduced the Aquadura cork-crown sealing system, which significantly enhanced water tightness and earned Mido the nickname “King of Waterproof Watches” at the time.

In 1944, the brand launched the Ocean Star collection as a testament to its mastery of water-resistant watchmaking, and in 2020, the brand revived this collection marking a huge and strong return. In its latest release, Mido introduces the Ocean Star 200C, featuring hues inspired by the tranquility of a sunset over a mountain lake.

The watch features a stainless steel case with a rose gold-colored PVD coating, combining brushed and polished finishes. It measures 42.5mm in diameter and 49.06mm lug-to-lug. A unidirectional rotating bezel is topped with a deep green ceramic insert and a white Super-LumiNova dot at 12 o’clock. Both the screw-down crown and screw-down stainless steel caseback, also rose gold PVD-coated, contribute to a water resistance of 200 meters. A polished starfish motif engraved on the caseback pays homage to the Ocean Star's aquatic heritage.

The dial stands out with its matte green finish and distinctive wave-like texture, reminiscent of ripples on a calm alpine lake. Applied indices filled with white Super-LumiNova ensure excellent legibility in low light. A day and date display sits at 3 o’clock, accompanied by diamond-cut hands, also treated with white Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability.

Powering the watch is Mido’s Caliber 80, based on the ETA C07.621. This automatic movement operates at 21,600 vph (3Hz), delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve, and includes a Nivachron balance spring for outstanding resistance to magnetic fields and shocks.

The watch is paired with a brown crocodile-style leather strap, accented with white stitching and secured by a rose gold-colored PVD-treated stainless steel pin buckle engraved with the Mido logo. A quick-change system allows for easy strap swaps without the need for tools. This model joins Mido’s permanent collection and is priced at CHF 1,090, approximately AED 4,950.
