Introducing Seiko Expands the Prospex Speedtimer Collection with Three New Models

Two Permanent Additions and a Limited Edition Honoring the Iconic Datsun 240Z

Seiko is expanding its Speedtimer sub-collection with the launch of seven new timepieces this week. While we've already covered the first trio of chronographs, attention now turns to a brand-new model: the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer 6R Compact Countdown. The new series includes two core collection models alongside a standout Speedtimer Compact 6R x DATSUN Fairlady Z Limited Edition.

This release celebrates the historical link between Seiko and Datsun, the legendary Japanese car brand owned by Nissan. One of Datsun’s most iconic cars, the 240Z produced from 1969 to 1978 became a symbol of sporty style and mechanical reliability, especially popular in Japan and the United States. The 240Z also achieved motorsport success, most notably winning the grueling 6,200km East African Safari Rally in 1971.

Seiko was one of the sponsors of that victorious rally car, a legacy that now lives on in this new timepiece inspired by the iconic vehicle.

With this launch, Seiko introduces its slimmest 6R-equipped watch to date. The new model measures 39.5mm in diameter with a thickness of just 12 mm, boasting a smooth, flowing profile from lug to lug.

It features a solid caseback engraved with the Datsun logo on the limited edition model and offers a robust 200m water resistance. A secondary crown positioned at 4 o’clock controls an internal rotating bezel designed for countdown functionality.

Focusing on the dial, the two regular-production models are available in white or grey, while the limited edition sports a black dial. All three feature prominent baton-style hour markers and central hour, minute, and seconds hands with luminescent strips for enhanced legibility in low-light conditions. A color-matched date window is neatly integrated between 4 and 5 o’clock. For the first time, the Speedtimer logo appears alongside the Seiko and Prospex branding.

On the DATSUN Fairlady Z edition, the dial is further adorned with the Datsun logo. Red accents on the seconds hand and countdown scale pay tribute to the livery of the original Datsun Safari rally car from the 1970s, the legendary 240Z, also known as the Fairlady Z.

This is the first time a model in the Speedtimer collection is powered by a 6R-series movement. Inside ticks the 6R55 automatic caliber, introduced in 2023. This in-house movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers a 3-day power reserve, with an accuracy rated at -15/+25 seconds per day.

The Datsun Limited Edition comes fitted with a perforated racing-style leather strap, enhancing its vintage motorsport aesthetic. The core models, on the other hand, are paired with Rolled-edge "Roleaux"-style stainless steel bracelets. The Datsun edition is limited to 2,500 pieces and is priced at EUR 1,250 (approx. AED 5,250). The two permanent collection models retail for EUR 980 (approx. AED 4,110).
