Stefan von Gunten Showcases Swiss Craftsmanship with a Artisanal Dial
Independent watchmaker Stéphane von Gunten has unveiled a new limited edition in his Honoris collection, the very first collection conceived by the micro-mechanical engineer, launched in 2022. The debut model was a technical marvel, featuring a groundbreaking hand-wound caliber with an exceptional 1,000-hour power reserve.
While technically advanced, the Honoris series maintains a timeless aesthetic with refined finishing and haute horlogerie techniques, establishing the Haute-Rive brand as one of the most promising independent names in recent years. The new addition continues this tradition, boasting an artisanal dial crafted using time-honored methods, developed in collaboration with renowned Swiss artisans.
The Honoris I case measures 42.5 mm in diameter and 11.95 mm in thickness, and is crafted entirely from 18k white gold. Its fully polished, classically rounded case is topped with a crimped-edge bezel — not merely decorative, but instrumental in function. This bezel serves to wind the mechanical movement, a necessity given the torque required to charge the 3-meter-long mainspring. As such, the crown is reserved exclusively for time-setting, while a pusher operates the function selector. The power reserve indicator is positioned on the case back.
The green dial is the result of a grand feu enamel process. First, the white gold base was meticulously hand-engraved by Master Pierre-Alain Lozeron, then coated with layers of translucent enamel and fired in a kiln to achieve its vivid finish.
The layout mirrors previous editions: gold leaf-shaped hour and minute hands at center, a visible portion of the central gear train at 12 o’clock, and a 60-second tourbillon at 6 o’clock.
Powering the watch is Stéphane von Gunten’s inaugural caliber, the HR01 a manually wound movement offering an extraordinary 1,000-hour power reserve, or over 40 days, from a single barrel. The massive barrel, housing the 3-meter mainspring, is integrated into the mainplate and beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz).
On one side, the barrel drives the power reserve indicator on the case back, which displays a 360-degree graduated scale from 0 to 1000 for optimal readability. On the other, it engages a differential that links the barrel to both the gear train and winding mechanism. Winding is done by turning the bezel counterclockwise.
The watch is fitted with a hand-stitched perch leather strap, secured with a golden buckle. The Honoris I Lagoverde edition is limited to just eight pieces and is priced at CHF 188,000, equivalent to approximately AED 835,000.
