News L. Leroy Marks Its 240th Anniversary with the Dawn of a New Chapter
Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A full-titanium limited edition that reflects the independent watchmaker’s unique vision.
David Candaux introduces the DC7 Blue Hawk, a remarkable creation born from meticulously considered choices by the master watchmaker and designer. This timepiece, with its sharp profile and subtly layered dial that plays with shadows and refined lines, draws inspiration from the blue hawk, a symbol of breathtaking speed, precision, vision, and the perfect blend of power and lightness.
At the heart of the DC7 Blue Hawk is the in-house H70 calibre, featuring a 30° inclined flying tourbillon. This timepiece is a bold expression of independent watchmaking, where Candaux breaks free from convention to fully realize his artistic and technical vision. The six-layer dial exemplifies exceptional complexity, while the case, shaped like a naturally sculpted river stone embodies fluidity and organic form.
Embracing asymmetry as an aesthetic principle, the DC7 Blue Hawk positions its hour and minute display off-center, a subtle homage to Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man and the eternal search for balance between dynamic tension and harmony. This is haute horlogerie distilled to its essence: no unnecessary complications, just the purest expression of time. At 12 o’clock, the 30° inclined flying tourbillon becomes the visual focal point, introducing a new balance wheel to the David Candaux collection and reaffirming the brand’s relentless pursuit of precision.
The 44 mm case, crafted from Grade 5 titanium and entirely hand-polished—a first for the brand—features a unique basin-shaped silhouette and measures 14 mm in height. Its polished surfaces subtly catch the light, enhancing the dial’s deep blue reflections.
As with all David Candaux timepieces, the DC7 Blue Hawk is built around the patented “magic crown,” a retractable mechanism discreetly positioned at 6 o’clock. Comprising 31 components, it features three positions neutral, time-setting, and winding, and is a complication in its own right. Its integration ensures a seamless case profile and an ergonomic fit, enhanced by gently curved lugs that conform naturally to the wrist.
The dial is architecturally centered around the tourbillon, with an anodized blue titanium cage that amplifies the visual depth, complemented by a pearled baseplate. The small seconds, crafted from white lacquered titanium, is integrated within the tourbillon and indicated by a graduated blue ring.
Inspired by the architecture of CERN’s ATLAS hadron collider, baton indices are subtly embedded on a recessed plane, creating a captivating interplay of light and shadow. Super-LumiNova contours enhance depth and visibility. A finely integrated minute track along the inner flange optimizes legibility while preserving visual balance. The hour and minute hands, of a contemporary openworked design, are accented with blue Super-LumiNova triangles at their tips, echoing the dial’s vivid tone.
Beneath its elegant exterior lies the hand-wound H70 calibre, a movement of technical sophistication. Entirely conceived and developed by David Candaux, the calibre is inclined at 3° and constructed from titanium to ensure exceptional reliability. This exclusive movement powers the eight pieces in this limited series, each backed by a 10-year warranty a rare pledge in contemporary watchmaking.
The 30° inclined flying tourbillon, composed of just 29 components, delivers a mesmerizing 3D effect and superb chronometric performance. Its architecture embodies David Candaux’s dedication to visual harmony, where symmetry and asymmetry coexist in perfect balance.
The movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offers a 72-hour power reserve from two barrels. Grained bridges and polished bevels, including intricate inward angles, showcase traditional hand-finishing of the highest order. The engraved motto, “Heart and Mind,” encapsulates both the soul of the timepiece and the philosophical vision of its creator.
The DC7 Blue Hawk is presented on a hand-stitched rubber strap and is available with Velcro, folding, or pin buckle options. Limited to just 8 pieces, it is priced at approximately CHF 149,000, or AED 687,000.
