The iconic watch retains its status as the world’s thinnest chiming watch
Bulgari reintroduces its ultra-thin minute repeater watch made of carbon. First unveiled in 2018, it features a case, dial, and bracelet made of carbon.
In 2016, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater was unveiled at the Baselworld fair as the world’s thinnest minute repeater, with a movement measuring just 3.12mm and a case thickness of 6.85mm. Bvlgari’s chiming watch was housed in a 40mm sand-blasted titanium case. Two years later, the company goes further, Bvlgari unveiled the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater in a carbon case in 2018. Now, on the occasion of Geneva Watch Days 2024, the company revives this design once again. The company unveiled the world's thinnest watch earlier this year at the Watches and Wonders exhibition.
With its bold octagonal design and distinct Roman style, Bvlgari incorporates many aspects of Rome’s imperial past. The architecture of the Octo collection draws inspiration from the Roman Forum, specifically the coffering on the ceiling of the 4th-century Basilica of Maxentius. This technique, used to lighten the Basilica's colossal barrel vaults, features sunken panels with octagonal and circular shapes. This geometric interplay is reflected in the Octo case and in Bvlgari’s ultra-slim Octo Finissimo watches.
Bvlgari's ingenuity is evident in its mechanical watches. Bvlgari reintroduces the all-carbon Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon, a high-tech watch that holds the record as the thinnest chiming watch ever created.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater in Carbon features a complex, finely structured 40mm case made from Carbon Thin Ply. This material makes the watch extremely slim at just 6.85mm thick and remarkably light, with a unique dark appearance. Although carbon is not the best material for acoustics, Bvlgari's success in making it work demonstrates its innovative prowess in horology over the past five years.
The dial, made from the same carbon material as the case, has cutout indexes allowing the sound to propagate. Time is indicated by rhodium-finish brass skeletonized hands and a running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock with white printed indices.
Powered by the manual-wound caliber BVL 362, the same movement used in the previous minute repeater edition, this watch is just 3.12mm thick and offers a power reserve of 42 hours, with exquisite finishes throughout. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph.
The new carbon edition comes with a carbon bracelet featuring an integrated folding buckle. Priced at USD 164,000 / 602,300 AED.
