A new diving watch collection with white and blue aesthetics
When Seiko unveiled its first dive watch in 1965, it laid the foundation for a reputation that now spans six decades of fine watchmaking. Over the years, the brand has delivered tool watches that have become icons in both professional diving and everyday wear. As part of its divers watch 60th-anniversary celebration, Seiko introduced three new diving watches earlier this year, and today it expands the collection with the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT SPB519.
Crafted from stainless steel with Seiko’s signature super-hard coating, the case measures 42mm in diameter and 13.3mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug span of 48.6mm. It’s topped by a glossy blue ceramic bezel with a unidirectional 60-minute scale. The screw-down crown and solid caseback help ensure the watch’s impressive 300-meter water resistance, a significant upgrade from the 200-meter rating of earlier models in the range.
The silvery white dial features a clean, sunray-brushed finish with large hands and applied indices coated in Lumibrite for optimal legibility. A red central GMT hand points to a second time zone on the inner flange, while a date window is subtly positioned at 4:30.
Powering the watch is Seiko’s in-house Calibre 6R54, an automatic movement beating at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) with a 72-hour power reserve. Accuracy is rated between +25 to -15 seconds per day.
The watch is paired with a stainless steel bracelet featuring a six-step micro-adjustment clasp that offers about 15mm of adaptability. Notably, this is the first time Seiko includes this system on a non-limited edition. Speaking of which, the SPB519 is not a limited edition and will join Seiko’s permanent collection at a price of EUR 1,900, approximately AED 8,000.
