A unique piece marks Singapore’s 60th year of independence
Audemars Piguet is known for creating countless icons, most famously, the Royal Oak. In 2019, however, the brand introduced the Code 11.59 collection to represent its most contemporary design language. The collection offered a platform for unconventional complications and bold aesthetics. For some Royal Oak enthusiasts, the design initially felt unfamiliar. But over time, collectors began to appreciate the architectural ingenuity of the case, especially the multi-part construction, which features an octagonal middle case hidden between a round bezel and caseback. The collection gained further acclaim with the introduction of meteorite dials, tourbillons, and dial finishes, culminating in the Code 11.59 winning the prestigious Aiguille d’Or at the GPHG in 2023.
This year, the brand introduces the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel SG60 Unique Edition, a one-of-a-kind timepiece created to mark Singapore’s 60th year of independence. Donated to the National Museum of Singapore, the watch is set to be auctioned at a charity dinner hosted by the museum on August 15, 2025.
Like the standard Starwheel, this SG60 edition features the Code 11.59’s complex multi-part case. Measuring 41mm in diameter and 10.7mm in thickness, it combines a white gold bezel, lugs, and caseback with a central case middle crafted from black ceramic. The watch is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal on the dial side and a sapphire caseback, and offers a water resistance of 30 meters.
At the heart of the design is a dial unlike any other in the Starwheel family. A deep red lacquer base with a sparkling finish evokes the vibrant red of Singapore’s national flag, while silver chapter rings replace the usual black to better harmonize with the celebratory color palette. The signature wandering hours complication remains, with three black rotating satellite discs gliding across a curved minute track.
Powering the watch is the self-winding Calibre 4310, a modified version of Calibre 4309 equipped with a wandering hours module. Operating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), it delivers a 70-hour power reserve thanks to its twin mainspring barrels. The movement also features a skeletonised 22k pink gold rotor engraved with an “SG60” motif.
The SG60 edition comes on a black rubber-coated strap with a white gold pin buckle. Audemars Piguet also includes a second strap in denim-effect calfskin with red stitching. The price is available upon request.
