Three new editions, featuring a ceramic bracelet for the first time
In 1953, Blancpain introduced the Fifty Fathoms, one of the first true diver’s watches, serving as a crucial tool for professional divers of the era. The Bathyscaphe, a daily-use version of the Fifty Fathoms, followed in 1956. This line was designed for everyday wear, featuring a different format with a reduced diameter. Today, it reaffirms its original essence with a dynamic model that combines captivating color with advanced ceramic technology.
The modern Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe debuted at Baselworld in 2013. The series has become quite important for Blancpain, with many versions having followed the 2013 release. These included a chronograph and several iterations of the time-and-date model. Additionally, 2018 saw the release of a version housing caliber 6654.P with its Quantième Complet (complete calendar) complication.
Now Blancpain is delighted to present the new Bathyscaphe editions, now featuring an elaborately designed and patented black ceramic bracelet and a 43.6 mm case made from the same material. This new design boasts an assertive, sporty yet supremely elegant style. It also gets two new dials in sunburst blue and sunburst green.
Cutting-edge ceramic technology elevates the Bathyscaphe line to new heights. The unique properties of ceramic make it an ideal material for this versatile line, which introduces a high-tech ceramic bracelet for the first time.
Durable, highly scratch-resistant, and hypoallergenic, this ceramic material is nearly five times harder than stainless steel and 25% lighter. Despite its exceptional qualities, ceramic is challenging to work with, especially regarding finishing. The process involves a 25% reduction in volume when firing at over 1,400 degrees Celsius and the use of diamond tools for machining. Satin-brushing is a delicate and meticulous process, with every facet of the links, buckle, and case individually finished by experts.
There are various ways to bring a ceramic watch to life. The accessible method involves molding parts, often resulting in rounded shapes. However, high-end watchmakers like Blancpain approach it differently, finishing all parts with the same precision as they do for metallic cases.
Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Ceramic
The new Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune features a 43.6mm black ceramic case, measures 14.1mm thick, and offers water resistance up to 300 meters. It also includes a sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel inlay with liquid metal markings, showcasing its diver’s watch heritage with a rotating bezel.
The dials of the new models come in elegant shades of blue, green, or black, featuring a subtle gradient combined with a sunray finish. The Quantième Complet, or Complete Calendar, includes a traditional pointer date display around the dial, day of the week and month windows at 12 o'clock, and moon phases in a sub-dial at 6 o'clock.
Visible through a sapphire crystal case back is the automatic movement caliber 6654.P, which offers a 72-hour power reserve thanks to its two barrels. This secure movement allows the wearer to adjust the calendar indications at any time of day without risk of damage. Adorned with traditional Fine Watchmaking decorations such as bevelling, circular graining, and snailing, this calibre incorporates a silicon balance spring, making it impervious to magnetism.
Available with a choice of bracelets or straps ranging from ceramic to NATO and sailcloth, the new full ceramic Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet will retail for CHF 23,900, equivalent to 97,600 AED. Versions with sailcloth or NATO straps are priced at CHF 16,900, equivalent to 69,000 AED.
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Automatic
Blancpain has introduced its most appealing models with ceramic bracelets, in addition to presenting them in the new complete calendar model. First among these is the classic time-and-date dive watch, the Bathyscaphe reference 5000. It features a 43.6mm black ceramic case, a matching ceramic bezel, and thickness of 13.83mm, and a black sunray-brushed dial with a date window positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock. This watch is powered by the automatic calibre 1315, offering a 120-hour power reserve and equipped with a silicon balance spring.
This new model joins the editions worn ceramic bracelet and retails for CHF 19,600 which is equivalent to 80,000 AED.
Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback
The other model now available with a black ceramic bracelet is the striking green Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback. Encased in a 43.6mm X 15.25mm black ceramic case, this version features a gradient green sun-brushed dial and a matching green ceramic bezel. The watch is driven by the high-end calibre F385 chronograph movement. This automatic movement, featuring an integrated column-wheel and vertical clutch, operates at a 5Hz frequency and offers a power reserve of up to 50 hours.
This new model joins the editions offered with ceramic bracelets and comes at the same price as the calendar edition: CHF 23,900, equivalent to 97,600 AED.
