Inspired by the Black Forest and Vintage Military Aviation Watches
Founded in 1927 by Walter Storz in Hornberg, in the Kinzigtal region, “Stowa” is a German watchmaker renowned for its commitment to craftsmanship. Initially focused on pocket watches, the company later transitioned to wristwatches, becoming a prominent name in the industry. Stowa's designs are characterized by their classic aesthetic and emphasis on functional elegance. One of the brand's most iconic models is the Stowa Flieger, a pilot's watch with historical significance, originally used by military aviators during World War II. This design remains a hallmark of the brand, still in production today with modern updates that preserve its classic appeal. In this article, we will highlight the latest update to the Flieger watch, the "Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon watch".
The case of the watch is inspired by the natural beauty of the Black Forest region, reflecting its deep, rich tones in the familiar black-coated finish. With a case diameter of 40mm and a thickness of 10.2mm, the watch offers a sleek look. Crafted from stainless steel and finished with a durable black coating, the case is built to withstand daily wear. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal enhances the watch's durability, while the screwed-down open case back the onion crown ensures water resistance up to 50 meters.
The dial of the watch is inspired by the black of one of Baden-Württemberg’s most beautiful natural landmarks, the Blautopf. It features a large matte black surface, contrasted with shiny black numerals and minute markers that create a clean, contemporary look. The iconic triangular marker at 12 o'clock and the hands are highlighted in an eye-catching turquoise, offering a vibrant pop of color. The dial is available with or without the logo, and can be customized with or without a date window at 6 o’clock. For enhanced legibility, the hands and hour and minute markers and numerals are coated with Superluminova black, which glows with a blue hue in the dark.
The watch is powered by a movement from Sellita, offering three options to suit different preferences. The standard model features the SW200 movement, while the upgraded version comes with the SW210, which boasts finer finishing and cotes de geneve lines, and chronometer-grade performance. Additionally, the SW210 is available in a hand-wound option for those who prefer a more traditional experience. The SW210 offers a 42-hour power reserve, while the SW200 provides a 38-hour reserve. All three movements operate at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), ensuring reliable and accurate timekeeping.
It comes with a black strap and pin buckle, and priced at EUR 1,090 approximately equivalent to AED4,360 for the base automatic, EUR 1,220 approximately equivalent to AED 4,880 for the top automatic, and EUR 1,240 approximately equivalent to AED 4,960 for the top hand wound movement.
