A Platinum Case and a Sapphire Dial Showcasing One of the Brand’s Most Complex Movements
On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2025, Panerai unveils the Perpetual Calendar GMT Platinumtech PAM01575, one of the brand’s most complex timepieces. This model introduces remarkable updates, featuring Panerai’s proprietary Platinumtech alloy and a transparent blue sapphire dial that reflects the maritime heritage of the Luminor collection. Inspired by watches Panerai originally designed exclusively for the Italian Navy in the 1960s, these timepieces were only made available to the public in 1993.
The dial reveals intricate details of the movement and the date wheel, safeguarded by Panerai’s patented date-fixing system, ensuring precise and durable display functionality for everyday use.
Panerai has been a pioneer in developing advanced materials and alloys, crafting exclusive compounds for its watch cases. Previously, we saw the Perpetual Calendar GMT Goldtech edition, made from the brand’s proprietary gold alloy. This new release features a 44mm case crafted from Platinumtech, an alloy composed of 95% pure platinum. It boasts 40% greater hardness than traditional platinum due to a special treatment process, enhancing scratch resistance. Additionally, it is 33% heavier than 18K gold, giving the watch a commanding presence on the wrist. The design is completed with Panerai’s signature crown protection device, while the case offers water resistance up to 50 meters.
The transparent blue dial is designed to showcase the day and date discs, adding a distinctive aesthetic without compromising readability. The deep blue hue contrasts elegantly with the luminous hands and markers, evoking Panerai’s seafaring spirit and the depths of the ocean. To ensure optimal legibility in all conditions, the hands and indices are coated with Super-LumiNova X2, providing a brighter green glow than previous iterations. The dial layout includes central hour and minute hands, a GMT hand, a classic day and date display at 3 o’clock, and a sub-dial at 9 o’clock housing the small seconds, a 24-hour indicator, and a day/night indicator.
However, this is only a glimpse into the complexities of Panerai’s perpetual calendar models. Through the case back, additional complications are revealed, including month and leap year indicators, as well as a power reserve display.
The watch is powered by the automatic P.4100 caliber, developed over five years, featuring an intuitive mechanism that allows the day, date, month, and leap year to be adjusted solely via the crown. It also includes a GMT function with a 24-hour display, making it an ideal companion for frequent travelers. Despite its complexity, the movement remains compact, measuring just 35.1mm in diameter and 7mm in thickness. It features a micro-rotor in gold and twin barrels, delivering an impressive 72-hour power reserve, particularly useful for a perpetual calendar mechanism.
The watch comes with a dark blue alligator leather strap with a vintage finish, as well as a blue rubber strap, complemented by a white gold buckle. Priced at 78,000 euros, equivalent to approximately 316,600 AED.
