Slimmer Case, Meteorite Dials, and a New Hand-Wound Movement
Omega begins 2025 with a significant unveiling, expanding the Speedmaster collection with the new Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite. This timepiece showcases two unique meteorite dials and introduces a new movement that displays the moon phases from both hemispheres. The case has been notably slimmed down compared to other models in the collection, and the automatic winding has been replaced with a manual wind.
The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite features a stainless steel case with a 43 mm diameter and a thickness of 13.6 mm, substantially thinner than the previous version, which measured 16.9 mm. With a water resistance of 50 meters, this watch is not suitable for swimming. The front is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the case back also features a sapphire crystal, offering a view of the movement. The pushers and crown are crafted from stainless steel, providing excellent grip and ease of use. Both versions of the watch are equipped with a ceramic bezel, available in either blue or black, with a white enamel tachymeter scale insert.
The dial of the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite is made from iron meteorite and is offered in two variations: one with a black PVD coating and another with a galvanic gray-coated meteorite dial on a blue PVD-coated base. Each meteorite dial is unique, with its individual pattern adding a special touch. The hour indices and hands are crafted from 18K white gold or coated in blue PVD, with a luminescent coating for enhanced readability in low light.
The subdials for the small seconds and chronograph feature a snailed decoration, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the dial. The standout feature of the dial is the moonphase display at 6 o’clock, which includes two cabochon moons made from genuine moon meteorite, illustrating the starry sky as it appeared on the night of the Apollo 11 landing.
At 3 o’clock, there is a subdial with the minute and hour hands, while an additional subdial at 6 o’clock displays the lunar phases for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The subdial at 9 o’clock shows the running seconds and date indicator.
The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite is powered by the new manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9914. The movement boasts a 60-hour power reserve, thanks to its two barrels, and features the Co-Axial escapement, which reduces friction and enhances the movement's longevity. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), the movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back, showcasing a special finish that includes Geneva stripes. The movement is also anti-magnetic up to 15,000 gauss, thanks to its silicon balance spring, and has passed the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) tests, ensuring high precision and reliability.
The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite comes with a stainless steel bracelet, featuring both polished and brushed finishes. It is equipped with Omega’s patented comfort release adjustment system for easy length adjustment. The bracelet is secured with a folding clasp, ensuring a secure fit.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite is now available at authorized dealers, with a price of 15,000 CHF (approximately 60,000 AED, excluding taxes).
