Konstantin Chaykin Breaks the Record for World's Thinnest Mechanical Watch

For many years, the world’s leading watchmaking companies have been competing to produce the thinnest mechanical watches. Prestigious brands such as PiagetBulgari, and Richard Mille have been at the forefront of this race, with Bulgari securing a prominent position, dominating various categories. Recently, Bulgari made headlines by reintroducing its ultra-thin minute repeater during the first day of the Geneva Watch Days. Piaget previously held the title for the thinnest tourbillon watch at the Watches and Wonders event.

However, a new contender has emerged from Eastern Europe. Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin unveiled a prototype that puts him at the forefront of the ultra-thin watch category.

Introducing Hanhart Unveils The Preventor HD12

A new releases on the robust and anti-scratch HD12 steel

Hanhart, founded in 1882 in Tübingen, Germany, has a long history of producing watches for various needs, from professional sports watches and aviation watches, such as  “Fly Navy Aerosphere”, to everyday use watches, all while upholding high-quality standards. Now, The company  introduces its latest addition,  "Preventor HD12" watch from the Pioneer collection.

The watch features a case made from advanced HD12 steel, which offers exceptional scratch resistance with a surface hardness of 1200 HV (Hardness Vickers), It is a unit of measurement used to measure the hardness of materials, significantly higher than the 220 HV of standard 316L steel. Furthermore, this durable material provides excellent corrosion resistance due to the PVD coating, which helps maintain the watch's intricate surface details. The case is available with a polished and brushed surface, adding to its aesthetic appeal. The watch has a diameter of 39 mm, a height of 10.50 mm, and a lug-to-lug span of 46 mm, and is water-resistant to 150 meters. Design elements include an elegant bezel, a polished screw-down crown adorned with Hanhart’s iconic “h,” a convex sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating, and a closed case back engraved with the company’s name.

The dial is available in blue or black hue, features central cathedral-shaped hour and minute hands, a red-tipped seconds hand, and white hour markers, all coated with Super-LumiNova for visibility in low-light conditions. It is also enhanced with a white minute track for improved readability.

The watch is driven by the Sellita SW200, an automatic that offers 38-hour power reserve, and a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz). Regulated to an accuracy of 0/+8 seconds per day.

The Preventor HD12 offers versatile strap options, black, dark brown, or light brown calfskin straps with Alcantara lining, white stitching, and a pin buckle, or a stainless steel bracelet with a transparent PVD coating and a folding clasp. The watch can be worn with either a leather strap featuring a removable Bund-like plaque or the steel bracelet.
