A Limited Edition from the French Brand That Revives the Iconic Valjoux 92 Movement
The French watch company Depancel has unveiled a limited-edition timepiece, the Allure Valjoux 92 Bleu de France, created to celebrate the legacy of chronographs and the spirit of French motorsports. For this release, the brand’s watchmakers have revived one of the most legendary movements in haute horlogerie the Valjoux 92, fusing mechanical history with a compact case design under 40 mm.The Valjoux 92, introduced in the 1950s and named after the Vallée de Joux, is renowned for its slim profile and mechanical reliability. It powered many of the most iconic chronographs of its era. Its architecture features a horizontal clutch system and a column-wheel mechanism, a hallmark of high-quality chronographs offering both beauty and precision in movement design.
The dial of the Allure Valjoux 92 Bleu de France pays tribute to the iconic liveries of vintage French racing cars. The deep blue hue, known as French Racing Blue and made famous by brands like Bugatti, infuses the timepiece with bold character and nostalgic elegance.
Housed in a 39 mm case crafted from 316L stainless steel with a thickness of 13 mm, the watch boasts retro-style rounded pushers and a prominent knurled crown with a red insert. The polished case features a slim bezel, while the tachymeter and pulsometer scales are printed directly on the dial, ensuring a refined and compact profile. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.
The dial itself is constructed in two parts: a black sunburst central area surrounded by a pulsometer scale, and a French blue outer section with applied white indices. A 30-minute chronograph counter is positioned at 3 o’clock, slightly overlapping the black center. Encircling the entire dial is a black tachymeter scale for additional timing functionality.
Red highlights bring dynamic contrast to the dial, with both the central chronograph seconds hand and the 30-minute counter hand rendered in bright red. The tips of the hour and minute hands also feature red accents. All hands and indices are coated with white luminescent material for legibility in low light.
Powering the timepiece is the hand-wound Valjoux 92 movement, operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. This restored vintage caliber offers a power reserve of approximately 30 hours. Carefully overhauled by Depancel’s watchmakers, the column-wheel chronograph mechanism ensures precise and smooth operation, preserving the spirit of 1950s watchmaking.
Completing the ensemble is a black leather strap. The Allure Valjoux 92 Bleu de France is limited to just 20 numbered pieces, each priced at €3,900 which is approximately equivalent to AED 16,300.
