The Indie Swiss Watchmaker Adds His Touch to the Rising Chinese Brand’s Latest Creation
Behrens unveils its first timepiece created in collaboration with independent watchmaker Vianney Halter. This new creation, named the KWH watch, carries a distinctive design and concept, marking the second chapter in the brand’s “Master Collection.”
The project continues a series of strategic collaborations initiated by the rising Chinese brand, which has previously partnered on several occasions with independent Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin and other renowned creators, cementing its position as a bold partner for some of the most inventive minds in contemporary watchmaking.
As for Vianney Halter, he is regarded as one of the foremost independent watchmakers of his generation, celebrated for his unique design language that has defined his own creations, as well as for notable collaborations such as his work with Louis Erard and, more recently, Massena LAB.
The inspiration for the Master Collection KWH Watch was born during a visit to Halter’s workshop in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, a town famed for its music boxes. There, Behrens founder Lin Bingqiang noticed an antique electricity meter in Halter’s collection, echoing a similar industrial artifact he himself owned. This moment of serendipity sparked the idea to reinterpret the aesthetics of vintage industrial instruments within a contemporary watch design.

During the early design phase, both parties studied the structure and principles of antique electricity meters, focusing on their iconic square form. This distinctive geometry was reimagined as a proportionally scaled-down case, fusing industrial character with fine watchmaking. Measuring 35 × 41 × 10.9 mm, the case is crafted with anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both the front and back, and is water-resistant to 30 meters. The KWH Watch will be offered in two variations: 18k white gold with a nebula purple dial, or 18k rose gold with a rock grey dial.
Adding another layer of creativity, the design also draws inspiration from the classic video games Snake and Tetris. These pixel-based games from the early digital era captivated a generation, and their nostalgic charm is vividly reflected in the watch. The hour display takes direct cues from Snake, using Behrens’ patented ruby-bearing micro-chain mechanical system, where a “pixel snake” of seven dots continuously rotates around the dial. The packaging pays tribute to Tetris, with arrangements of the seven iconic shapes recreating scenes from the game, completing the retro digital homage.

The lower half of the dial features Behrens’ axial display system, with the left axis dedicated to the power reserve and day-night indicator. The power reserve arrow itself is inspired by the aluminum disc markers of vintage electricity meters, while the right axis is reserved for the minute display. Additional complications are found on the caseback, with a calendar and moon phase display positioned at 12 o’clock, both easily adjusted via quick-set pushers integrated into the case.
At its core, the KWH Watch is powered by the newly developed BM06 manual-winding calibre, co-created by Behrens and Vianney Halter. The movement is composed of 870 components, features twin barrels providing a 72-hour power reserve, and incorporates a temperature-compensation adjustment system to ensure stability of the micro-chain mechanism in all environments.
Each version of the KWH Watch is limited to just 9 pieces worldwide. Both models are paired with hand-stitched, double-sided leather straps equipped with quick-release technology, complementing the futuristic yet playful dial colors. Priced at USD 44,800 approximately AED 164,500.
