A World Time Edition Marks the Brand’s 45th Anniversary in Style
To celebrate its 45th anniversary, Andersen Genève presents the Communication 45, a sumptuous limited-edition worldtimer that pays tribute to the complication’s central role in the brand’s legacy. It marks the tenth world time wristwatch in the maison’s catalogue since its founding in 1990. Only 45 pieces will be produced, divided equally among three 15-piece editions, each featuring a dial map of either Europe, Asia, or the Americas.
Housed in a 3N yellow gold case, the watch showcases a cognac-toned BlueGold dial, intricately engraved with a waveform tapisserie pattern and inlaid with landmasses rendered in pure gold.
The 38 mm case, crafted from 3N yellow gold, is made at Andersen Genève’s dedicated case workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds using traditional, non-CNC techniques. This artisanal approach is now exceedingly rare. The case features gracefully curved sides, a stepped bezel, twin recessed crowns, and a flawlessly hand-polished mirror finish. It measures just 8.97 mm thick.
One of the standout design elements is the pair of sculptural lugs. Inspired by the teardrop lugs of the original 1990 Communication case, crafted by the late master case maker Jean-Pierre Hagmann, they are reinterpreted here in a more pronounced cornes de vache (cow horn) style, offering both heritage and refinement.
The two crowns are seamlessly recessed into the case flanks. The crown at 9 o’clock, used to set the city ring, is engraved with the “C45” anniversary globe logo. The crown at 3 o’clock, for time-setting and manual winding, features the Andersen Genève “A” emblem.
The Communication 45 follows the traditional world time layout. Time in 24 time zones is displayed simultaneously via a rotating 24-hour ring with day and night indication, and an adjustable city disc. Local time is indicated by skeletonized, sword-shaped hands in yellow gold.
At the heart of the watch lies a breathtaking center dial made of 21 ct BlueGold, an Andersen Genève specialty. This exclusive alloy, created by combining gold with iron elements, is heat-treated in a kiln to produce a richly oxidized surface with a permanent lustre. While the technique typically yields a blue hue, this edition is fired to achieve a warm, luxurious cognac shade. The dial is then hand-engraved with the brand’s signature waveform tapisserie, a historic guilloché motif that has become a hallmark of Andersen Genève’s artistry.
Set within this shimmering seascape are inlaid landmasses in pure yellow gold, corresponding to the three available editions: Europe, Asia, or the Americas. The intricate inlay process was custom-developed for this model, the result of months of collaboration with leading Swiss artisans. Only 15 pieces will be produced for each map variant.
Powering the watch is a vintage new-old-stock caliber AS 1895 from the now-defunct A. Schild, chosen for its slim profile and proven reliability. Beating at 3 Hz and offering a 40-hour power reserve, the movement has been entirely reworked, assembled, and hand-finished in-house by Andersen Genève. It features a winding rotor crafted from the same cognac-hued BlueGold as the dial, also adorned with the signature tapisserie pattern.
The world time function is driven by Andersen Genève’s proprietary in-house module, originally developed by Svend Andersen in the 1980s. Just 0.9 mm thick, the module has been continuously refined for greater precision, energy efficiency, and ease of use.
Movement finishing is executed to the highest standards. Bridges and plates are decorated with a fine frosted texture, contrasting with hand-applied anglage. Screws are mirror-polished, and wheel teeth are finely adjusted to exact tolerances. A discreet Andersen Genève “A” logo is engraved on a black-polished central bridge, anchored by a heat-blued screw.
The watch is paired with a dark brown suede leather strap and a matching yellow gold pin buckle. Limited to just 45 pieces, with 15 per dial variant, the Communication 45 is priced at CHF 49,800, equivalent to approximately AED 228,730.
