An open-worked dial reveals Raymond Weil's first mechanical movement
Raymond Weil was founded in 1976 in Switzerland by Raymond Weil, and later led by his grandson, Elie Bernheim. One of the brand's notable achievements was winning the prestigious Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève 2023 in the "Challenge Watch" category. Over the years, the brand has introduced numerous collections, including the Freelancer collection, which was first launched in 2007 and has since seen several remarkable editions. Today, we are excited to present the latest in the Freelancer collection, the “Freelancer Skeleton Automatic” watch. This timepiece combines Raymond Weil’s renowned craftsmanship with a bold, contemporary design, showcasing the intricate mechanics of its automatic movement through an open-worked skeleton dial.
The watch comes with a sleek 38 mm polished and brushed stainless steel case with a thickness of 10.87 mm, offering a balanced and elegant profile. The case back is screwed-down and fitted with a sapphire crystal, ensuring durability and providing a clear view of the movement. Designed for practical use, the watch boasts a water resistance of 100 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear and light water activities. The sapphire crystal is treated with a dual-sided anti-reflective coating for enhanced clarity, while the screw-down crown, embossed with the RW monogram, adds a refined and distinctive touch to the overall design.
The watch features an openworked dial that highlights the intricate mechanics of the movement, drawing particular attention to the balance wheel at 6 o'clock. This skeletonized design enhances both transparency and depth, offering a clear view of the finely crafted movement beneath. The Raymond Weil logo is elegantly placed on the blue flange, which is treated with Super-Luminova, as are the hands, providing improved legibility in low light. The minute track, marked with white indicators and numerals every five minutes, complements the luminescent hands. Special attention has been given to the color balance, with the black ruthenium-finished bridge contrasting beautifully with the rhodium-plated and steel movement components, which echo the stainless-steel case. Gold accents on the movement wheels and the balance wheel further refine the design, creating a harmonious and sophisticated aesthetic.
The watch is powered by the Calibre RW1212, Raymond Weil's first in-house developed mechanical self-winding movement. Named after the Swiss address 1212, representing the Geneva suburb of Grand-Lancy, this movement marks a significant milestone for the brand. The RW1212 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing a 41-hour power reserve. The movement features a sunray brushed finish coated in black ruthenium. The movement also introduces the iconic W-shaped oscillating weight, a new horological signature for Raymond Weil.
It comes with a stainless steel bracelet, with a double-push security system folding clasp. It is priced at USD 3,325 approximately equivalent to AED 12,200.
