A one-of-one piece inspired by the legacy of Georgian Orthodox heritage
URWERK was founded in 1997, yet it has already etched its name among the finest independent watchmakers. Co-founded by watchmaker Felix Baumgartner and artist Martin Frei, the brand is renowned for defying tradition with mechanically radical designs. Even the name "URWERK" alludes to the ancient Mesopotamian city of Ur, where the concept of time was born, and the German word werk, meaning "to create."
This year, URWERK introduces the UR-100V Time and Culture III, the latest chapter in its ongoing “Time and Culture” series, following Time and Culture II from two years ago. This third edition delves into the sacred legacy of Georgian Orthodox heritage, a rich tapestry where iconography converges.
Housed in 2N 18K yellow gold, the case measures 41mm in diameter and 14mm in thickness, topped with a sapphire crystal. The dial dome is a marvel of craftsmanship, rendered in 24K cloisonné enamel. Its creation spanned more than 1,152 days, using 19 different enamels and requiring 16 kiln firings at 750°C. Inspired by the frescoes of Georgia’s Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the composition places Christ at the center of twelve celestial symbols, evoking the cycles of time: 12 hours, 12 months, and 12 constellations.

Powering the watch is the UR 12.02 caliber, an automatic movement equipped with a Windfänger airscrew that regulates the rotor's speed. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and delivers a 48-hour power reserve. As with many URWERK creations, time is indicated via the brand’s signature wandering hour satellite complication, enhanced with Super-LumiNova for nighttime visibility.
The timepiece is paired with an Alcantara and leather strap, secured by an 18K yellow gold pin buckle. This is a pièce unique, and the price is available upon request.
