With a unique design for the power reserve indicator, reviving one of the company's most beautiful designs
For the 70th anniversary of the Conquest collection, one of Longines' most enduring collections, the original Conquest from 1954 was a straightforward gold three-hander with broad faceted hour markers. However, this latest tribute piece draws inspiration from a 1959 model. Throughout its history, the Conquest line has consistently embodied the qualities of self-winding and water resistance, maintaining a close association with the realm of sports. After that the collection saw further enhancement with the introduction of a watch featuring a unique power reserve indicator. This exceptional feature is visually represented by two rotating discs positioned at the center of the dial.
The anniversary watch's case, crafted in stainless steel, has grown to 38 mm, compared to the original 35mm diameter of the first edition. Nevertheless, this size is deemed perfect and is sure to delight watch enthusiasts with a penchant for traditional timepieces. The design exudes sophistication, boasting a solid crown and a box sapphire crystal with multilayer anti-reflective coating on both sides. A notable aspect of the watch is its weight, which is 69.6 grams, adding to its remarkable qualities.
The model is available with beige, anthracite, or black dials and features a stylized mid-century dial design adorned with 'skyscraper'-inspired hamds. The power reserve is indicated by a central disc displaying the 72-hour running timeAs the mainspring is wound, either through wearing the watch or manual winding with the crown, the outer disc turns clockwise, indicating an increasing power reserve with larger numbers. It continues rotating until it reaches the maximum at 72, aligning with the black rectangular marker. Once the power reserve is at its peak, the two discs stay aligned. However, as the watch operates and the mainspring unwinds, the inner disc rotates counterclockwise. This movement continues until the black rectangle indicator reaches the 0 mark, signaling that the watch has depleted its energy reserve.
Just like the original watch, the new creations showcase the date at 12 o'clock and a central power reserve indicator on an unwinding disc. The anthracite-dial version is adorned with pink-gold-colored indices and hands, while the black version boasts silver-colored dial details. On the beige-colored dial, yellow-gold-colored indices and hands add a touch of elegance.
Powering the watch is the automatic L896.5 calibre, exclusively designed for Longines by ETA, is visible through the transparent section of the screw-down caseback., a self-winding mechanical movement beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour, featuring a monocrystalline silicon balance-spring that provides a power reserve of up to 72 hours.
The models with beige and black dials come with a black alligator strap, while the anthracite-dial version is paired with a matching gray alligator strap. Longines has opted for a relatively simple and understated steel pin buckle.
The three versions come in the same price of USD 5,810 which is equivalent to 21,400 AED.
