Introducing The New Classique 5177 and 7787: A Testament to Breguet’s Legacy

For the First Time in Platinum, Both Editions Shine with Black Grand Feu Enamel

Abraham-Louis Breguet was not only a genius watchmaker but also a visionary who introduced numerous technical advancements we still use today. While many recognize him for inventing the tourbillon, Breguet also pioneered the power reserve indicator—a feature that tracks the remaining energy in a watch’s mainspring. Beyond technical innovation, Breguet was an exceptional designer, mastering high-precision decorations like guilloché engraving and enamel painting.

This heritage lives on in Breguet’s modern pieces, particularly in the Classique collection. Known for its timeless elegance, the collection now welcomes two new additions: the Classique 5177 and Classique 7787, crafted for the first time in platinum. The Classique 5177, introduced nearly 20 years ago in 2006, is already celebrated for its versatility, with versions available in different gold hues and either guilloché or enameled dials. Previously limited to white and blue enamel, this latest release features a striking black enamel dial within a platinum case, adding a sophisticated new option.

In separate news, Breguet was earlier this month Breguet announced the appointment of Gregory Kissling as its new CEO. Kissling will succeed Lionel a Marca, who has served as CEO since 2021. Marca is reportedly transitioning to a new role at Blancpain, while also taking on responsibilities overseeing manufacturing for the Swatch Group’s high-end division, which owns both Breguet and Blancpain.

These new models boast carefully crafted platinum cases, measuring 38mm by 8.8mm for the Classique 5177 and 39mm by 10.3mm for the Classique 7787. Platinum, along with "Grand Feu" enamel, elevates these timepieces into the realm of haute horology. This enamel, historically used to protect dials from aging effects like dust and oxidation, now enhances the uniform, deep black faces of these Classiques. Each dial is adorned with Breguet’s iconic Arabic numerals, while the rhodium-plated “moon” tip hands create a refined contrast. Embracing a tradition of authenticity, both models feature Breguet’s discreet secret signature: to the right of the center on the 7787 and between the center and 6 o’clock on the 5177.

The Classique 5177 is a pure reflection of A.-L. Breguet’s stylistic vision, focusing on essential time displays with a date window at 3 o’clock. Meanwhile, the Classique 7787 offers additional displays, including a moon-phase window crafted with a hammered gold moon against a starry blue sky and a power-reserve indicator on the lower dial.

Building on nearly 250 years of expertise, the Maison Breguet continues its legacy of innovation at its manufacture in Vallée de Joux. Both the Classique 5177 and 7787 are powered by self-winding mechanical movements visible through sapphire crystal casebacks.

The Caliber 777Q in the Classique 5177 runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, composed of 237 parts with a flat silicon balance-spring, chosen for its resilience against wear, corrosion, and magnetism. Its rhodium-plated 18-carat gold oscillating weight, engraved with a “starry mosaic,” provides up to 55 hours of power reserve.

The Caliber 591 DRL in the Classique 7787 is a complex 221-part movement with a 4 Hz frequency, offering a 38-hour power reserve. Its 22-carat gold rotor, decorated with “barley grain” guilloché, enhances the movement’s beauty. Additionally, the 591 DRL provides an accurate moon-phase cycle (29.5303498 days), a precision that means only a one-day discrepancy every 348.7 years.

Both models come with a black alligator leather strap and a platinum triple-blade folding clasp. The Classique 5177 is priced at EUR 43,500 (approx. AED 173,000), while the Classique 7787 is available at EUR 51,800 (approx. AED 206,000).
