Introducing The New Ace x Christiaan van der Klaauw stAriadne Amsterdam Star

A new addition the Ariadne collection with a new dial and star-shaped indices

The realm of horology extends beyond the confines of Switzerland. Globally, there are skilled watchmakers, and the Netherlands stands as a testament to the creation of exquisite timepieces. Christiaan van der Klaauw, born in Leiden, Netherlands, in 1944, a renowned watchmaker known for his exceptional astronomical clocks. His journey in crafting timepieces with astronomical complications began in 1974 when he presented his first clock with a moonphase, showcasing his passion for astronomical intricacies.

In 2001, the brand introduced the Ariadne, a chronograph featuring a full date indication, 24-hour indicator, and a moonphase indicator. The moon's phases are elegantly portrayed: to the left signifies the first quarter, at the center denotes a full moon, and to the right indicates the last quarter. In the absence of the moon, a captivating starry sky graces the window, adding a touch of celestial beauty to this timepiece, creating an engaging celestial display.

This year, Christiaan van der Klaauw unveils the Ace x Christiaan van der Klaauw stAriadne Amsterdam Star, a unique variant from the brand's chronograph collection for its retailer in the Netherlands “Ace Jewelers”. While retaining the original design, this special release features a frosted fog gray dial adorned with star-shaped indices, adding a distinctive touch to the timepiece.

As mentioned, the watch maintains the original aesthetics of the Ariadne collection – a round steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter. It includes a screw-down crown, two chronograph pushers and sapphire crystal on both the front and caseback, ensuring a water resistance of 30m.

The frosted gray dial features applied star indices, while the brushed counters, breguet style hands, calendar, moon phase discs, and date indicator on the flange are presented in black, excluding the red center chronograph second hand. The 30-minute subdial, along with the day-month indicators, is positioned at 12 o’clock. Each watch is custom-made for the client, offering a choice between Dutch or English calendar discs. The brand's name and iconic sun logo are positioned at 3 o’clock, and the moonphase with a 12 hour counter is located at 6 o’clock, while the small seconds and 24-hour subdial is positioned at 9 o’clock.

The watch is powered by caliber CVDK7758, an automatic movement with a gold rotor decorated with hand-engraved guilloche done by German guillocheur Jochen Benzinger. The movement operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz), and offers 48 hours of power reserve. The watch comes with a black Alligator leather strap with a folding clasp, it is limited to 50 pieces and comes at a price of EUR 7,397 which is equivalent to AED 30,000.
