A limited edition to commemorate the lunar new year 2025
Baume & Mercier has been creating timepieces since 1830, and one of its most iconic lines, the Riviera, which first debuted in 1973, is known for its bold twelve-sided bezel and distinctive style. In 2021, the brand reintroduced the Riviera, revamping its aesthetic for a new era, and it continues to be a standout in the brand’s collection. In celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Snake, Baume & Mercier unveils the Riviera Chinese New Year - Snake Edition. This limited edition of 200 pieces combines the elegance of the Riviera series with culturally significant elements to honor the auspicious zodiac animal.
The watch blends stainless steel and titanium with a polished and brushed finish that strikes a balance between modern sophistication and timeless appeal. The 39mm case features Baume & Mercier’s signature twelve-sided sandblasted titanium bezel, which mimics the texture of natural rock, evoking the ruggedness of mountain landscapes and the oceanic waves that define the Riviera’s iconic aesthetic. The case back is equipped with a sapphire crystal secured by four stainless steel screws. Through this crystal, one can admire a gold-plated motif of a snake, coiled in a posture that symbolizes strength, wisdom, and protection in Chinese culture.
The dial features a black snake positioned in the southeastern direction, a traditional spot in the Chinese zodiac. The snake’s head stretches toward the 9 o’clock mark, referencing the ‘chen’ (辰) time period, between 7 and 9 a.m., which is considered auspicious in Chinese tradition. This intricate design is complemented by a serpent-shaped seconds hand, gilded in gold to symbolize the flickering tongue of a snake.
The hands, numerals, and indexes are gold-plated, lending the watch an air of noble sophistication. The dial also features riveted Roman numerals and indexes, all coated with white Super-luminova that glow in a blue hue in the dark. At the 3 o’clock position, a date window adds to the functionality.
Powering this timepiece is an automatic movement, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and providing an impressive 120-hour (five-day) power reserve. The watch comes with a black leather strap secured with a steel buckle. It is priced at USD 4,950, equivalent to AED 19,000.
