Introducing The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024 Edition

A unique piece in white gold for the prize of the "Best of Show" award in the classic car competition

The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is one of the most significant and time-honored classic car competitions, dating back to 1929. Since 2012, A. Lange & Söhne, the esteemed German house, has partnered with this event, and this year, they'll once again offer a special edition of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH as the prize for the "Best of Show."

From May 24 to 26, classic car enthusiasts will convene in Cernobbio, northern Italy, with a stunning view of Lake Como. The competitions will take place on the grounds of the Villa d'Este, where participants will compete for the jury's favor. The overall winner will be awarded the 'Trofeo BMW Group – Best of Show' and a custom A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph, presented by Lange's CEO, Wilhelm Schmid.

Considering its association with motorsports, the chronograph was an appropriate choice as the prize for the classic car competition. Previously, A. Lange & Söhne awarded special editions of the Lange 1 Time Zone as the prize, but in 2021, they switched to the 1815 Chronograph.

The new 1815 Chronograph features a white gold case with a diameter of 39.5 mm and a thickness of 11.9 mm, combining brushed and polished finishes. The watch has a hand-engraved hinged case back that bears the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este logo and the year of the event, and under it, a sapphire crystal case back offers a view of the intricate mechanics that the brand is renowned for.

A sapphire crystal protects the 18k pink gold dial, which features two brownish sub-dials, a 30-minute chronograph at 3 o’clock and a small seconds at 9 o’clock, set against a salmon-colored background. The dial also includes a flange with a tachymeter scale.

The watch is paired with a dark brown hand-stitched alligator leather strap, secured with an 18k white gold prong buckle. Powering the watch is the in-house L951.5 caliber. This manual-winding movement incorporates a column wheel, and a flyback function. It operates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz) and offers a 60-hour power reserve.
