Ulysse Nardin's Artistry Showcased in a Beautiful 3D Rose Gold Dragon
Ulysse Nardin stands as a watchmaking Manufacture dedicated to crafting cutting-edge timepieces. Established by Mr. Ulysse Nardin in 1846, the brand earned acclaim through its deep maritime connections, supplying them with marine chronometers. The brand is renowned for its pioneering advancements in technology and the utilization of the silicon hairspring in 2001 when unveiling the inaugural Freak, which later became the symbol of the brand.
Since its introduction in 2020, the Blast Tourbillon has become an iconic release from Ulysse Nardin's with distinctive craftsmanship and design. Its disruptive style, advanced movement technology, epitomizes Ulysse Nardin's design spirit. In 2024, the brand celebrates this Chinese Lunar year “year of the dragon”, with an avant-garde creation beautifully integrated with the ancient allure of Chinese folklore, the “Blast Tourbillon Dragon” where a 3D Dragon encounters the captivating Pearl in mother-of-pearl on the cage of the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock.
In rich traditional Chinese culture, the year 2024 is crowned as the Year of the Dragon, with the Chinese dragon appearing once every 12 years. Revered for embodying strength, power, and good fortune, these mythical creatures hold a significant place in cultural symbolism. The dragon is often intertwined with pearls, emblematic of purity, wisdom, and wealth. When these two powerful symbols converge, as witnessed in numerous tales, they create a harmonious narrative of strength, providence, and prosperity, encapsulating the profound cultural significance they hold.
Encased in an opulent Rose Gold 5N brushed and polished housing measuring 45 mm in diameter, the “Blast Tourbillon Dragon” boasts a black DLC titanium middle case and bezel. The focal point is the captivating Skeleton dial, where a 3D dragon gracefully flows beneath the watch's hands, exploring the intricate terrains of the gear train and the X structure. This rose gold dragon stands as a pinnacle of elite artistry and skill, a testament to exceptional craftsmanship spanning four days—three dedicated to intricate engraving and one for the application of graduated shades of red, orange, and yellow. Each three-dimensional detail, from the rippling scales of its tail to the gleaming whiskers and big claws.
Powering the timepiece is the UN-172 Manufacture self-winding movement, pulsating at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz) and boasting a 3-day power reserve. Positioned at 12 o'clock is a platinum micro-rotor, enhancing the watch's elegance and mechanical performance. Noteworthy elements of the movement include a silicon balance spring and escapement wheel, contributing to its precision and durability and eliminating the need for lubrication.
The watch is accompanied by a black matte alligator leather strap with a 5N rose gold folding clasp, and an additional black rubber "velvet" strap with a black PVD titanium folding clasp. The price of the Blast Tourbillon Dragon is CHF 95,400, equivalent to AED 412,000.
