A Chronograph Like No Other, Defined by a Unique Dial Design
In 2020, MING unveiled its first chronograph, the 20.01, a timepiece that stood out for its intricate construction and futuristic design, while remaining unmistakably true to the brand’s distinctive aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from the world of science fiction, the watch was crafted using a blend of innovative materials and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, offering a unique take on the chronograph complication.
Today, MING expands the 20.01 collection with the introduction of the Series 5. While preserving the core design language of its predecessor, the Series 5 brings significant advancements in materials, production technologies, and finishing, hallmarks that have defined MING since its inception. In addition to collaborating with key players in haute horlogerie, MING continues to partner with leading companies across various industrial sectors to create exceptional timepieces and push the boundaries of innovation, most notably with the creation of the world’s lightest mechanical watch.
The watch is housed in a hybrid 20-series case: the bezel, ‘flying blade’ lugs, caseback, and crown are crafted from stainless steel; the pushers are made from titanium and color-matched to the dial; and the caseband is rendered in DLC-coated titanium for a striking contrast. Measuring 41.5mm in diameter and 14.2mm in thickness, the case accommodates the sophisticated AgenGraphe movement while ensuring comfortable wear on a range of wrist sizes, thanks to its compact lug design.
The top sapphire crystal features laser-etched indices and chronograph scales, filled with MING’s proprietary Polar White luminous material. Continuing the brand’s pursuit of technical innovation, the Series 5 features what is likely the first dial in the industry to be laser-milled from a single block of titanium. This creates a complex pattern of radial strakes with interlocking surface contours across both vertical and horizontal planes.
After micromachining, the dial is vapor-coated in a vivid blue, then undergoes a second round of laser processing to selectively remove the coating from the upper surfaces of the strakes. This reveals the raw titanium beneath, now stonewashed for a textured, multidimensional effect.
Legibility remains a priority. The hour hand features a Super-LumiNova X1-filled center and polished outline, while the minute hand offers the reverse: a luminous outline with a mirrored center. Both emit a crisp blue glow for optimal contrast. The dial layout includes four hands: hours and minutes, plus central chronograph seconds and minutes.
The watch is powered by the Agenhor for MING Agengraphe Caliber 6361.M1, the same used in the previous Ming 20.01 Series 3, a central chronograph movement featuring a proprietary Agenhor coupling mechanism, regulator, and an upgraded clutch system. It is manually wound, utilizing twin skeletonized barrels with a hard winding stop, and offers an approximate 55-hour power reserve. The movement is adorned with 5N rose gold-coated bridges, finished with polished anglage, adding an extra touch of luxury to the intricate mechanics.
The 20.01 Series 5 is completed with a dark blue alcantara strap and a black FKM rubber strap fitted with our flying blade tuck buckle. Limited to 25 pieces, Priced at CHF 37,500 Which is equivalent to AED 168,275.
