Konstantin Chaykin Breaks the Record for World's Thinnest Mechanical Watch

For many years, the world’s leading watchmaking companies have been competing to produce the thinnest mechanical watches. Prestigious brands such as PiagetBulgari, and Richard Mille have been at the forefront of this race, with Bulgari securing a prominent position, dominating various categories. Recently, Bulgari made headlines by reintroducing its ultra-thin minute repeater during the first day of the Geneva Watch Days. Piaget previously held the title for the thinnest tourbillon watch at the Watches and Wonders event.

However, a new contender has emerged from Eastern Europe. Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin unveiled a prototype that puts him at the forefront of the ultra-thin watch category.

Introducing Hublot Collaborates with Swiss Sailor Alain Roura: The Big Bang Unico Sailing Team

Carbon Fiber Watch in Colors Inspired by the IMOCA Racing Boat

In the world of luxury watches, where brands compete to deliver the most exquisite and precise creations, Hublot stands out as a symbol of excellence. Since its founding in 1980 by Carlo Crocco, Hublot has become a household name in the watchmaking world, combining traditional materials like gold with modern materials like carbon and rubber, which is its trademark.

The brand has collaborated with numerous prominent figures and major sporting events, which has significantly bolstered its reputation and visibility. Hublot has introduced a diverse range of timepieces, including the "Big Bang" collection, featuring notable editions such as "Hublot Unico King Gold & Titanium (AFA)” watches, launched to mark the collaboration with the Argentine Football Association. Now, Hublot unveils the "Unico Sailing Team" from the same collection, created to honor its partnership with Swiss sailor Alan Roura and inspired by his racing boat.

Hublot has incorporated 3D carbon fiber into this case, utilizing a sophisticated three-dimensional weaving process. This cutting-edge material is renowned for its exceptional lightness. The carbon fiber is fashioned into a 42 mm case with a thickness of 14.5 mm. The watch features a high-polish carbon fiber bezel secured with screws, while the dial and movement are protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Chronograph pushers are strategically positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, with the main crown located centrally between them. The watch offers water resistance up to 100 meters.

The dial of the watch is crafted in a sleek, matte black finish, accentuated with yellow highlights that echo the colors of Alan Roura's IMOCA sailboat. This design not only enhances the watch's aesthetic appeal but also reflects its sporty identity. The openwork structure of the dial provides a clear view of the movement and the Column wheel

mechanism underneath. The sub-dial at 3 o’clock features a 60-minute chronograph and a date window, while the sub-dial at 9 o’clock for the small seconds is adorned with the Swiss flag and the sail number "SUI 7". The dial's edge is framed by a track and printed indices that aid in reading the minutes and seconds. The hour indices, as well as the hour, minute, and small second hands, are coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability in various lighting conditions. Additionally, the central second hand, which bears the company’s logo at its tip, is designed to precisely measure chronograph seconds.

The Big Bang Unico Hublot Sailing Team watch is driven by the HUB1280 Automatic chronograph movement. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers 72-hours of power reserve. Incorporating vertical clutch technology, the HUB1280 ensures precise timing by eliminating any jumping of the chronograph hand upon activation.

The watch comes with a strap made of durable black fabric with a one-piece polyurethane layer, and inspired by the mainsail of the sponsor’s IMOCA yacht, with a black ceramic folding clasp, and an alternative strap option in black and brown rubber with yellow lining. The watch is a limited edition of 100 pieces and is priced at USD 25,200, equivalent to AED 92,500.
