Understanding Jacob & Co. and Hublot

In the world of haute horlogerie, few names spark as much conversation and controversy as Jacob & Co. and Hublot. Among bloggers, YouTubers, and Instagram commentators, these brands are often targeted with criticism. The reality, however, is that much of this criticism stems from a lack of understanding about what these brands represent and the unique contributions they bring to the industry.

Too often, critics of Jacob & Co. and Hublot are simply echoing popular opinions without a nuanced understanding of these brands’ DNA. When pressed to substantiate their opinions, many struggle to provide meaningful insights or comparisons.

Introducing Dior Expands Its Chiffre Rouge Collection

Three Red Dials Add to the French Maison's Watch Selection

In 2017, LVMH fully acquired Christian Dior, having already held the majority stake in the brand. The French group secured Christian Dior in a deal worth 12 billion euros, fully integrating Dior’s luxury business into LVMH.

In Waqt, we discussed extensively LVMH’s watch division and its various brands, particularly what the French giant has achieved in recent years with a significant leap in the watch sector, as the companies under LVMH’s umbrella have achieved remarkable results. This growth has also extended to Dior, which revived its famous "Chiffre Rouge" collection last year, the watches first introduced by the brand in 2004, with the name literally translating from French to "red number."

Now, Dior has unveiled new releases featuring red dials, presenting two time-and-date models and a new chronograph edition powered by the iconic El Primero movement from its sister company within the French group, Zenith.

Dior Chiffre Rouge 38mm

The new editions of the watches that display only the time and date come in a 38mm size, with two versions that differ in case material. One features a DLC-coated black steel case with a matching steel bezel, while the luxury version boasts a DLC-coated black steel case with a bezel set with 60 black diamonds (1.2 carats) and sides crafted from rose gold. Both cases offer 100 meters of water resistance.

The dial features a red gradient, with a brass base decorated with the iconic Cannage pattern of the collection. The black hour and minute hands contrast with the red seconds hand, adding vibrancy to the design, while a rounded date window at 4 o'clock stands out.

The watch is powered by the automatic movement CD.002, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of up to 50 hours.

The strap is made of black rubber and comes with a folding clasp in matte black steel. The price of the rose gold version is USD 20,000, equivalent to AED 73,450, while the steel version is priced at USD 10,500, equivalent to AED 38,500.

Dior Chiffre Rouge Chronograph 41mm

This chronograph comes in a 41mm case made of steel treated with a black DLC coating, featuring an elegant design and advanced chronograph mechanism. The bezel has notches between the 9 and 12 o’clock positions, while the chronograph functions include a black push button at 2 o’clock for starting/stopping the chronograph and a red push button at 4 o’clock for resetting to zero. The case offers water resistance up to 100 meters.

The red gradient dial, made from yellow brass and engraved with the Cannage pattern, gives the watch a unique character. The chronograph seconds hand contrasts in red with the black gold hour and minute hands.

As for the chronograph subdials, they are distributed as follows: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. A rounded black date window is positioned at 4 o’clock.

The chronograph watch is powered by the CD.001 caliber from Dior, an automatic movement based on the famous Zenith El Primero movement, running at a high frequency of 36,000 vph (5 Hz) and offering a 48-hour power reserve.

The strap is made of black rubber with a micro-Cannage pattern, and it comes with a folding clasp in black DLC-coated steel. The price of this watch is USD 17,000, which is equivalent to AED 62,400.
