Introducing Chronoswiss Unveils the Open Gear Flying Tourbillon Psycho

The Regulator Design Merges with a Bold Display of Color and Exceptional Craftsmanship

Chronoswiss has unveiled its latest timepiece, the Open Gear Flying Tourbillon Psycho, a bold release limited to just 15 pieces. This daring design exemplifies the brand's audacious spirit, which has consistently propelled it forward, even during times when others succumbed to the quartz crisis—a testament to Chronoswiss’ storied history of resilience and innovation.

The Open Gear Flying Tourbillon Psycho is a vivid exploration of color and complication. The vibrant purple CVD coating hints at the depths of the subconscious, while the hand-guillochéd upper dial features a shifting Paraiba hue, transitioning from light green to turquoise, making the 3D regulator setup visually striking. In a previous article, we discussed regulator watches and highlighted Chronoswiss' excellence in this field.

"With the Open Gear Tourbillon Psycho, we invite collectors to lose themselves in the madness of high-end watchmaking," says Oliver Ebstein, CEO of Chronoswiss. "This timepiece is a journey through the mind's most vivid dreams and wildest visions, brought to life through pioneering CVD technology and the artistry of our watchmakers."

The name "Psycho" was chosen to evoke the thrilling unpredictability of the mind’s inner workings, reflected in the watch’s kaleidoscopic design. It embodies the boundless creativity and innovation that define Chronoswiss, standing as a testament to 40 years of fearless craftsmanship.

Entering the new millennium, Chronoswiss continued its legacy of exceptional timepieces and high-quality production. In 2000, the brand unveiled the breathtaking “Régulateur à Tourbillon '', a one minute tourbillon with Chronoswiss's characteristic regulator dial and floating tourbillon cage.

The new Chronoswiss Open Gear Tourbillon comes in a bold 44mm case, featuring a striking purple CVD coating. The solid 17-piece construction showcases a satin-finished and polished bezel, enhanced with partial knurling for added texture. It includes a curved sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating and a screw-down case back with sapphire crystal and satin finish. The signature onion crown complements the design, while the patented Autobloc system secures the strap holders. This case provides 100 m water resistance.

The dial is constructed from 42 parts, layered across several levels. The hand-guilloché upper dial showcases an ever-changing Paraiba green hue, shifting from light green to turquoise. A striking orange hour ring is suspended within the 3D regulator setup and fixed by purple bridges that match the case.

At 6 o'clock, the exposed flying tourbillon and movement offer a mesmerizing view, the lower portion of the dial is presented in blue-toned Côtes de Genève motif. Surrounding the dial is a blue minutes track featuring Super-LumiNova indices, while the Trigono-shaped hands, in a blue hue, also feature white Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility.

Powering the watch is the Chronoswiss-manufactured caliber C.303, a semi-skeletonized, hand-wound movement featuring an Incabloc shock protection mechanism. It beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and offers a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is adorned with a blue CVD coating and a main plate decorated with Côtes de Genève, while the skeletonized bridges feature a circular satin finish. Additionally, the balance wheel is galvanic anthracite, and the spring barrel is skeletonized for added visual appeal.

The Open Gear Flying Tourbillon Psycho comes with an alligator hornback leather strap, hand-sewn in electric blue with green stitching and orange Alcantara lining. It is a limited edition of only 15 pieces and is priced at CHF 43,800, which is equivalent to AED 188,000.
