The 250th Anniversary Celebration Continues with a Design Inspired by a 1955 Icon
As part of its 250th anniversary celebrations, and following the launch of the Classique Souscription 2025 edition, Breguet unveils the Type XX Chronographe Reference 2075. Available in two versions, this timepiece draws inspiration from a legendary model first introduced in 1955.
These new flyback chronographs pay homage to Abraham-Louis Breguet, the brand’s visionary founder, and to his great-great-grandson Louis Breguet, a pioneering aircraft manufacturer. The watches also honor the aviator duo Dieudonné Costes and Maurice Bellonte, the first men to fly non-stop from Paris to New York.
Their historic flight, completed in just over 37 hours between September 1st and 2nd, 1930, was accomplished aboard the Breguet 19TR Super Bidon. Named for its oversized fuel tank, the aircraft was famously adorned with a large question mark on each side of its fuselage.
Crafted in Breguet gold, an exclusive alloy with warm blond tones, the new Type XX Chronographe is offered with either a black anodized aluminium dial or a solid silver dial. The design takes direct cues from the “civilian” Type XX presented in 1955, bearing the individual serial number 1780.
Maintaining the original’s dimensions, the new case measures 38.3 mm in diameter and 13.2 mm in height, and is made entirely of Breguet gold, a distinctive alloy enriched with silver, copper, and palladium. Introduced with the Classique Souscription 2025, this proprietary material is now making its debut in the Type XX collection. The slim, bi-directional rotating bezel features black numerals for the black-dial version and blue numerals for the silver-dial version. The crown is engraved with the signature B of Breguet.
In a tribute to Louis Breguet’s innovative use of Duralumin—a 95% aluminium alloy used in aircraft manufacturing, the black dial is made from aluminium, a first for Breguet. A discreet “Al” marking between 7 and 8 o’clock confirms the use of this lightweight metal. To achieve a hue close to the 1955 original, Breguet uses anodisation, a technique that creates a protective oxide layer, enhancing both color depth and corrosion resistance.
The second version stays faithful to the historical reference with a solid silver dial, this time rendered in a vertically brushed finish for a refined, understated glow. A subtle “Ag925” marking between 7 and 8 o’clock nods to the dial’s sterling silver composition. This variant also includes a tachymeter scale, used to calculate speed over a given distance. Both dials feature applied Arabic numerals and markers in Breguet gold, along with the delicately executed Breguet name, also applied in gold.
Inside both versions beats a manually wound evolution of the calibre 728, introduced in 2023. Operating at a high frequency of 5 Hz, this movement includes a flyback function, enabling the chronograph to be reset and restarted with a single press of the pusher at 4 o’clock. The calibre 7279, housed in the black-dial version, features a 15-minute counter at 3 o’clock, while the calibre 7278 in the silver-dial model features a 30-minute counter. Both movements include a small seconds display at 9 o’clock and are gilded in Breguet gold.
Visible through the sapphire caseback is a hand-engraved depiction of the Breguet 19 aircraft in flight, accompanied by the transatlantic route taken in 1930. The frosted rendering of the European and North American continents contrasts beautifully with the polished Atlantic Ocean in between.
Each model is fitted with an interchangeable leather strap—gradient black for the black dial version and gradient blue for the silver dial version secured with a Breguet gold pin buckle.
The black-dial version is a special edition, individually numbered but not limited, priced at CHF 36,500 which is equivalent to AED 149,650, while the silver-dial version is a limited edition of 250 pieces priced at CHF 38,000 which is equivalent to AED 155,800.
