Celebrating the year of the snake with a malachite dial
Ball is a Swiss luxury watch brand headquartered in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Established in 1891 by Webb C. Ball in Cleveland, Ohio, known for producing robust and accurate timepieces. This year, Ball is unveiling the Engineer III Invigorating Serpent, the second addition to the Chinese Zodiac series, celebrating the Year of the Snake. In Chinese folklore, the snake embodies beauty and reverence, with legends depicting humanity’s ancestors, Fuxi and Nüwa, as half-human, half-snake figures. This edition intertwines ancient Chinese mythology with modern watchmaking.
The watch comes in a 904L stainless steel case known for its superior corrosion resistance, measuring 40mm in diameter and 12.5mm in thickness. The dial is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a magnified date display. The case offers 100-meter water resistance and anti-magnetic protection up to 1,000 Gauss, ensuring reliability in various environments. On the back, the watch showcases the Caduceus symbol, a nod to Greek mythology, where it represents prosperity and peace.

The malachite dial is the star of this timepiece, with each piece offering a unique texture and hue thanks to the natural variations of the gemstone. For nighttime visibility, the watch uses 14 micro gas tubes on the hour, minute, and second hands, ensuring legibility even in low-light conditions. The dial also features a date window at 3 o’clock. At 6 o'clock, the Chinese character for “snake” is painted in Super-LumiNova, designed in a traditional Chinese calligraphy style.

Powering the watch is the Swiss automatic calibre BALL RR1103, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers a 38-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a 904L stainless steel bracelet with a folding buckle. It is priced at CHF 1,980, approximately AED 8,000.
