Introducing Audemars Piguet Introduces the New Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked

From its inception, Audemars Piguet has cultivated creative synergies across a spectrum of fields, including sports, pop culture, art, and entertainment. These collaborations have yielded micro-mechanical marvels boasting contemporary designs. They've resonated notably with the free-spirited youth, embracing the zeitgeist. In the music sphere, this connection dates back to the early 2000s. Audemars Piguet has subsequently emerged as one of the most cited brands in rap lyrics.

Audemars Piguet has teamed up with Cactus Jack, the brand and record label founded by American hip hop artist Travis Scott, to design a dedicated Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar limited edition.

The company persists in advancing its innovations in materials science, The new watch comes in a 41 mm case in brown Ceramic brushed and polished, a first for Audemars Piguet, incorporates various Cactus Jack design elements. Meticulously finished with the trademark alternation of satin-brushing and polished chamfers, it features white gold hexagonal screws.
Crafting a ceramic case is an accomplishment in its own right, and achieving such precision in its construction and finishing commands respect. The case is entirely composed of ceramic, departing from earlier version of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked that featured a titanium case back. Moreover, the rear of the ceramic case frame bears the engraved phrase "Utopia is a State of Mind," a nod to Travis Scott's latest album.

The sapphire dial, revealing the openworked self-winding perpetual calendar movement within, is surrounded by a brown inner ring showing number of weeks, and smoked external zones on the subdials. Key features include typography for the calendar and week indications, based on a hand-drawn model by Travis Scott. Even the hand of the day subdial at 9 o'clock takes the shape of the Cactus Jack logo. The most prominent reference is the moon phase design at 6 o'clock, represented by Cactus Jack's emblematic smiley face with a sewn-shut mouth, featuring a luminescent coating that glows blue in the dark.
In contrast, other calendar indications use a luminescent material turning green at night, creating a distinctive luminous effect. The subdial at 12 o'clock displays months and leap years, while at 3 o'clock, the day subdial. The second hand is red, and the remaining hands feature a brown luminescent coating, complemented by applied hour-markers.

The sapphire caseback unveils the self-winding Caliber 5135, where refined decoration blends rhodium-toned components with pink-gold hues. Operating at 19,800 VpH, it features a dedicated stamped openworked 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight, meticulously finished with satin brushing and polished chamfers. The weight is engraved with the dual signature of "Audemars Piguet" and "Cactus Jack," with the Cactus Jack logo at its center, providing the finishing touch to this cross-universe collaboration. Additionally, the caseback is inscribed with 'Utopia is a state of mind,' a reference to Travis Scott’s latest album.

A new textured calfskin leather strap makes its debut for the occasion, a first for this complication, while the pink gold folding clasp is engraved with the double signatures of Audemars Piguet and Travis Scott.

In addition to the watch, the collaboration also includes an exclusive clothing and accessories collection. This range, encompassing hoodies, T-shirts, jackets, pajamas, shorts, and caps, will be sold exclusively on Travis Scott’s website. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a charity of Scott’s choosing, underscoring the philanthropic aspect of this partnership. 

The new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Cactus Jack is limited to 200 pieces and is priced at USD 202,000, equivalent to 742,000 AED.
