Star-Inspired Astronomical Dial Displays Moon Phases
When discussing historical watchmaking brands, Arnold & Son is renowned for its long legacy, dating back to its founding in 1764. The brand originally gained fame for its innovative timepieces, particularly in the areas of precision and functionality. After a lengthy hiatus, Arnold & Son made a successful comeback in the early 21st century and has since introduced several iconic collections. One such collection is the Perpetual series, which includes notable releases such as the “Moon 38 Blue Aventurine & Cliff Grey”, both of which feature distinctive moon phase displays. Arnold & Son is also known for producing high-quality watches with a strong focus on in-house manufacturing, designing and assembling all of its movements and components in-house. Today, we are pleased to introduce the brand’s latest release from this collection, the “Moon 41.5 Fern Green”, which retains the signature design of the series but introduces a fresh color and size variation.
The watch is crafted with a 41.5mm platinum case and a thickness of 11.30mm. It is water-resistant to 30 meters. The crown is engraved with the brand's logo, adding a refined touch to the overall aesthetic. A hidden pusher at the 2 o'clock position allows for discreet control of the moon phase adjustment, enhancing the watch's functionality. The domed sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, ensures optimal clarity and reduces glare. Additionally, the case back features a sapphire crystal with the same anti-reflective coating, providing a clear view of the intricate movement inside.
The watch's striking new green dial brings a fresh, botanical elegance to the iconic timepiece. The dial features the brand's signature "stellar rays" finish, achieved through intricate, irregular engraving of various depths and widths that create a unique play of light and shadow. This lush green tone beautifully complements the oversized moonphase complication, which occupies nearly the entire upper half of the dial. Surrounding the moon is the Ursa Major constellation, hand-painted and luminescent, adding a touch of astronomical wonder. Radiating star rays from the center of the dial at the hour and minute hands, while polished applied hour markers further elevate the overall refined aesthetic.
The watch is powered by the in-house Calibre A&S1512, a hand-wound mechanical movement offering a 90-hour power reserve and exceptional precision. Its moonphase complication accurately tracks the lunar cycle, which spans 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds. Remarkably, if regularly wound, the movement will take 122 years to accumulate a full day's difference from the actual celestial cycle. The case back features a secondary display that showcases the phases of the moon, allowing for swift and precise adjustments to the moon’s age. This meticulous attention to detail ensures the lunar cycle is precisely observed. As with all Arnold & Son movements, the A&S1512 is entirely developed, manufactured, decorated, assembled, adjusted, and cased at the brand's Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds, exemplifying the highest standards of watchmaking. With 27 jewels and a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz), it delivers both technical excellence and aesthetic sophistication.
It comes with a green alligator leather strap with a pin buckle. This watch is a limited edition of 28 pieces, and priced at GBP 46,300 approximately equivalent to AED 213,500.
