Celebrating 15 Years with a exceptional Dual Time-Zone timepiece
Armin Strom is a brand renowned for its innovative and highly precise timepieces, gaining fame for its mastery in skeletonizing movements, which allows wearers to admire the intricate workings of the watch in action. This signature approach is exemplified in many of its remarkable releases, including the Pure Resonance Sapphire. As a part of the fifth edition of Geneva Watch Days, Armin Strom is celebrating its 15th anniversary by reimagining the historically resonance complication, in the entirely new Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition, that showcases two independent time-zones.
Before diving into the watch, let's first understand what the resonance complication in watchmaking entails. Resonance occurs when two movements are housed within a single case, allowing their balance wheels to naturally influence and regulate each other in real-time through the exchange of imperceptible vibrations. This interaction enables the twin balance wheels to become perfectly synchronized, achieving a state of resonance that counters the negative effects of gravity and wrist movements on timekeeping. In watches that can sustain this phenomenon, the key benefits of resonance include more consistent timekeeping and enhanced precision.
The case of the Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition is crafted from 18K white gold, featuring a sapphire crystal and case back with anti-reflective treatment for optimal visibility. With a diameter of 39.00 mm and a height of 9.05 mm, this watch is a refined and elegant reimagining of the brand’s first Dual Time model. Drawing inspiration from the success of that initial release, Armin Strom has arranged the two movements vertically within the case to create a more sophisticated design.
The Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition showcases two symmetrical sky-blue dials with a grenage finish, complemented by black azurage chapter rings and applied polished baton indexes. The watch also features two crowns, one positioned at 4 o’clock and can be used to wind the movement and to set the time of right sub-dial, and another at 8 o’clock to set the time on the left sub-dial, allowing each dial to be independently set.
One of the standout features of this timepiece is its ability to set the two time zones entirely independently. While most dual time zone movements only allow for independent hour adjustments, this watch allows both the hours and minutes to be set to any desired time on each of the two identical dials. The engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicators, depicting the sun and moon, can be seen on both sub-dials. At 12 o'clock, we can see two independent, symmetrically mirrored balance wheels operating in anti-phase.
The watch is powered by the new Armin Strom manufacture Caliber ARF22, marking the 18th caliber designed and produced in-house under the direction of Claude Greisler, Armin Strom’s co-founder and master watchmaker. The movement features an anthracite PVD-colored main plate and operates through a manual winding mechanism, with two barrels providing a power reserve of 42 hours. Operating at a frequency of 25,200 vph (3.5 Hz), the watch achieves exceptional precision.
The watch is accompanied by two straps, a matte-gray alligator strap with sky-blue stitching and a light-gray alligator strap with pearl-gray stitching, both secured by an 18k white gold pin buckle. Limited to just 25 pieces, this timepiece is priced at CHF 115,000, which is equivalent to AED 500,000.
