Introducing Andersen Genève Introduces a Limited Edition Jumping Hours Watch

A Black Jade dial with Rose Gold Accents in a Platinum Case

Andersen Genève is presenting a limited edition of the acclaimed Jumping Hours, originally launched in 2020 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary. This complication is beloved for its minimalist elegance and the focus it brings to the dial, holding particular significance for Andersen Genève.

In 1995, Svend Andersen was first commissioned to create a watch featuring a Jumping Hours display, combining it with a minute repeater. This design became highly requested in several “pièce unique” commissions and famously led to one of Andersen Genève’s most recognizable inventions, the “Jour & Nuit.” In recent years, Andersen Genève has elevated the Jumping Hours complication to new levels of artistry and beauty, using it as a platform for watches that emphasize traditional craftsmanship. Their Jumping Hours watches were nominated in the Artistic Crafts category at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

Andersen Genève now presents an exceptionally refined interpretation of the classic Jumping Hours complication, featuring a hand-crafted platinum case paired with a dial of black jade stone. Before being made as a limited edition of 50 pieces, this combination was first created as a unique piece for Only Watch 2023. But the watch was not offered for sale in the auction that was held this year after it was postponed.

The case is crafted from Platinum Pt950, featuring a 38 mm diameter and a 9.22 mm thickness. It includes a pink gold crown. The flanks of the case are satin-brushed, while the bezel is mirror-polished. The curving lugs are made separately in a traditional style and are welded to the case. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. A sapphire glass case-back reveals the flawless hand-finishing of the movement, encircled by a ring of 21ct BlueGold, created through a unique heat-treating process. To achieve 21ct BlueGold, 24ct gold is mixed with iron elements and heat-treated to develop a radiant shade of blue.

The dial is crafted from pure jade stone, delicately cut to a thickness of just 0.4 mm and worked to a perfectly flat surface. This requires incredible skill to achieve without breaking the jade; at its thinnest point, where the hour wheel is recessed beneath it, the dial measures only 0.15 mm thick. The dial appears to be a deep, alluring black, creating a rich contrast with the minute hand, chapter ring, and brand logo in powdered pink gold. Upon close inspection, however, the veins and details running through the jade become visible. The hour is indicated through a window at 12 o’clock, while the minutes are displayed on a sub-dial at 6 o’clock.

The watch is powered by the Frédéric Piguet 11.50 caliber, an artisanally-made Swiss movement. Its ultra-slim dimensions make it an ideal base for the jumping hours mechanism, which is developed and assembled in-house by Andersen Genève. The two-barrels architecture ensures a long power reserve of up to 70 hours and beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz).

The hand-finishing of the movement includes meticulous chamfering around the individual parts, Côtes de Genève decoration, and mirror-polishing of the screw heads, all performed in-house by Andersen Genève artisans. The automatic movement is wound by a decorated rotor in 18ct pink gold with a hand-guilloché “grains d’orge” pattern. It is topped off with a small plate on the bridge displaying the “A” Andersen logo (in pink). The plate is secured by a tiny blued steel screw.

The watch comes with a hand-stitched black suede strap and a platinum buckle. It is a limited edition timepiece, with only 50 pieces available, and is priced at CHF 52,800, which is equivalent to AED 221,000.
