Editorial Breitling Navitimer: The Watch That Does More Than Tell Time

Inspired by a Pilot Watch Designed for the French Army in 1948
Swiss watch brand Albishorn was founded by Sébastien Chaulmontet, who has extensive experience working for several prestigious watchmaking and movement companies, including Sellita and La Joux-Perret. The brand made its debut at Geneva Watch Days 2024, presenting its first model, the Maxigraph, developed in collaboration with Massena Lab.
The company unveils the Type 10, the second edition in its collection. Unlike its predecessor, the Maxigraph, the Type 10 is a monopusher chronograph, launching the Air collection. This edition draws inspiration from the Type 20, which the company considers the ideal chronograph for pilots. Originally made for the French army in 1948 by brands such as Breguet, it features a flyback chronograph function, a rotating bezel, and anti-magnetic properties, making it a practical military-designed timepiece.
One of the company’s goals is to offer designs based on vintage versions that have never been re-introduced, preserving the heritage of these classic watches. Since there is no new version of the Type 20, Albishorn imagined what a new model of this 1940s watch might look like. Albishorn has taken a unique approach: the Type 10 is designed without a flyback function, but despite lacking this mechanism, the company developed a unique solution for the watch.
The Albishorn Type 10 Chronograph comes in a 41.7mm stainless steel case. Excluding the bezel, the case measures 39mm in diameter, with a thickness of 12mm, including the box-shaped sapphire crystal, and a lug-to-lug distance of 47.7mm. The case is finished with a combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces, with beveled and polished edges. The winding crown, in steel or bronze depending on the version, is positioned at 10:30, accompanied by a red aluminum chronograph pusher at 9 o’clock.
This thoughtful design allows for comfortable operation of the chronograph with the thumb. The bezel is bidirectional and conical in shape, featuring engraved and alternately lacquered and luminescent gradients. It is made of stainless steel and treated with DLC.
The dial, designed for easy reading, is available in two versions: a black dial decorated with a grained pattern or a smoke green dial. Both versions feature large luminescent Arabic numerals and a distinctive design for the sub-dials, with running seconds at 4:30 and a 30-minute counter at 7:30.
This “dashboard” design provides a clear and structured aesthetic, enhanced by the patented chronograph working indicator at 12 o’clock, displaying the chronograph states—reset, start, and stop—in black, red, and white, respectively. The luminescent hands filled with SuperLumiNova ensure readability, even in low light conditions.
The watch is powered by a hand-wound movement developed by Albishorn, based on the Valjoux calibre 7750, a movement manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and certified by COSC. It is a slim movement, measuring just 5.70mm thick, beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), and offers a power reserve of 65 hours.
Each version of the Albishorn Type 10 Chronograph is available with two styles of leather strap: black or beige for the black dial version, and black or green leather for the second version, both featuring an Albishorn buckle. This model is not a limited edition and is priced at CHF 3,950 (approximately AED 15,800).
