Collaborating with UK Porsche restomod specialist Rennsport for a limited edition
There's always room for fresh ideas, especially when young brands like Aera bring something exciting to the table. Founded in 2022 by Jas Minhas and Olof Larsson, Aera focuses on creating Swiss-made mechanical watches that are as modern as they are practical. Building on the success of the C-1 Chronograph, Aera's first release featuring a complication, the brand has now teamed up with UK-based Porsche restomod specialist Rennsport to craft a striking 25-piece limited edition: the C-1 Rennsport Chronograph.
The new watch, like the previous releases, is made from 904L stainless steel, which is a step up from the more commonly used 316L steel found in most watches. 904L offers better resistance to corrosion and pitting, is non-allergenic, and has a beautiful, lustrous finish that stands out. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal, surrounded by a 904L stainless steel bezel with matte black lacquer-filled numbers and markers.
With a 42mm diameter and a case thickness of 15.75mm, it has a bold yet refined presence. The stainless steel caseback is marked with the special "Rennsport x Aera" edition engraving, adding a distinctive touch to this limited release.
The matte black dial features white markings, and just like the Rennsport Porsche 911 it reinforces its strong connection to motorsport. Highlighting this collaboration and paying homage to the iconic Porsche spirit, the sub-dials showcase a 3D-printed interpretation of the legendary five-spoke Fuchs (Fuchsfelge) wheel, originally designed in 1965. The hands, filled with green-glowing Super-LumiNova, ensure excellent legibility, while the red lacquered seconds hand and sub-dials hands, tipped with Super-LumiNova, add a vibrant touch that also glows green in low light.
The watch is powered by the Sellita SW510 Bi-compax automatic movement, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offering 56-hours of power reserve. It comes fitted with an Italian pebble-grain leather strap featuring red stitching, a quick-release function, and a 904L stainless steel buckle. For Rennsport car owners, there’s an exclusive option to upgrade to a bespoke strap made from the same material as their car’s interior. The watch is priced at £2,350, which is approximately AED 11,000.
