Refined Design Featuring a Smaller Case and a More Intricate Movement
Greubel Forsey is back with the GMT Balancier Convexe, a bold new interpretation of its GMT concept. Housed in a curved titanium case and protected by a convex sapphire crystal, this latest addition to the growing Convexe collection represents an evolution in the brand’s travel-inspired timepieces, blending the functionality of a GMT, a world timer, and more. The watch introduces a slightly smaller case and a significantly more complex movement, incorporating 73 additional components compared to its predecessor.
Every display element has been thoughtfully refined. The visual architecture of the dial has been condensed, with unnecessary components concealed beneath the surface, allowing the viewer to focus on what truly matters while preserving an engaging mechanical aesthetic.
Crafted from titanium, the case of the GMT Balancier Convexe follows the signature convex design of the collection, enhancing both wrist comfort and visual presence. The caseband measures 42.90 mm, while the bezel extends to 44.90 mm. The case height is 15.10 mm, with the overall thickness—including the domed sapphire crystal—reaching 17.60 mm. The bezel features a striking three-dimensional, variable-geometry shape, combining hand-polished surfaces with straight graining. The sculpted lugs are screwed for optimal structural integrity.
The titanium crown is finished with a mix of polishing, frosting, and straight graining, and it proudly bears the engraved GF logo. A high-domed sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement and the oversized world time disc in full detail. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.
At the heart of the GMT Balancier Convexe is a dial designed like a miniature amphitheatre, presenting a multitude of indications with clarity and harmony. Its central element is a titanium terrestrial globe that completes a full rotation every 24 hours in sync with Earth’s natural motion. Encircled by a 24-hour chapter ring with contrasting black and white segments for day and night, the globe acts as both a captivating centerpiece and a practical reference. The continents are rendered in relief, adding a tactile, three-dimensional quality to the display.
Encircling the globe is an amphitheatre-style hour ring engraved and lacquered with minute markers. The hours and minutes are indicated by hands tipped with red triangles filled with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility. A subdial displays the second time zone (GMT), while a polished blued steel small seconds indicator is positioned nearby. At 11 o’clock, the power reserve display is seamlessly integrated, showing the 72-hour autonomy.
A world time display on the front offers a quick-glance overview, but the real marvel lies on the reverse: an oversized sapphire disc featuring city names and a large outer 24-hour scale representing the time in each of the 24 main time zones. A smaller inner 24-hour scale also indicates daylight saving time.
The movement is a true showcase of Greubel Forsey’s horological mastery. Comprising 496 components, it features the brand’s signature 30° inclined balance wheel, visible on the dial side at 6 o’clock suspended beneath a flat black-polished steel bridge and supported by polished steel pillars. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement is entirely hand-finished with frosted and polished surfaces, chamfered edges, and olive-domed jewels set in gold chatons, demonstrating the brand’s unwavering commitment to artisanal excellence. Two series-coupled, fast-rotating barrels provide a 72-hour power reserve.
The watch is offered with a hand-sewn textured rubber strap or a rubber strap with text in relief, both fitted with a titanium folding clasp engraved with the GF logo. An optional three-row titanium bracelet is also available on request, complete with a folding clasp featuring an integrated fine adjustment system and the engraved GF logo.
The new GMT Balancier Convexe is limited to just 22 pieces. Price is available upon request.
