Celebrating the upcoming Year of the Snake with a limited edition platinum piece
Considered the oldest watchmaker in the world, Blancpain has long been celebrated for its innovation and craftsmanship. Throughout its storied history, the brand has consistently pushed the boundaries of mechanical ingenuity, creating some of the most complex timepieces ever conceived. Among its many achievements, Blancpain made history in 2012 with the debut of the Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar, a wristwatch that masterfully combines the intricate Chinese calendar with the Gregorian date and moonphase. Earlier this year, the brand launched a stunning red gold version of this iconic watch.
Building on this legacy, Blancpain now introduces the Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar 2025, a new timepiece crafted to honor the arrival of the Chinese Year of the Snake on January 29, 2025. This latest release marks a first for the collection, featuring a platinum case paired with a beautiful green Grand Feu enamel dial.
Like the other releases in this collection, the watch measures 45.2mm in diameter and 15.1mm in thickness, it features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a sapphire crystal case back, and five hidden correctors under the lugs for adjusting the calendar. What sets this edition apart is its polished platinum case, which adds more elegance to the watch.
The green Grand Feu enamel dial is a showcase of intricate functionality. At the 12 o’clock aperture, the Wood Snake symbol marks the zodiac sign of the current lunar year. The dial features applied white gold Roman numerals and hands, with a wealth of complications arranged harmoniously: a double-hour numeral counter at 12 o’clock, a sub-dial at 3 o’clock displaying the 10-year cycle, a moon phase at 6 o’clock, and a leap month indicator at 9 o’clock. Surrounding the dial is the Gregorian date, elegantly indicated by a serpentine hand.
The watch is powered by the Calibre 3638, an automatic movement operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offering an impressive 7-day (168-hour) power reserve. Adding to its allure, the movement features a 22K white gold rotor with a frosted finish, adorned with the zodiac sign, a natural ruby, and an engraving in Chinese characters that reads "serpent" and "wood."
