A Limited Edition Timepiece Pays Homage to Lord’s London Cricket Ground
To celebrate its role as the Official Timekeeper of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, Oris has partnered with the esteemed Marylebone Cricket Club. As their first watch release of 2024, they have chosen a timepiece from the iconic Oris collection, the Big Crown, which has stood the test of time since 1938. With good reason and it's for good reason they present a limited-edition twist on the classic bronze Big Crown Pointer Date, aptly named the "Father Time." This special timepiece pays homage to the iconic weathervane adorning the Lord's clock tower, a silent sentinel overlooking countless cricketing battles.
The Father Time Limited Edition will be meticulously crafted in a limited run of 1,926 pieces, a subtle nod to the year Sir Herbert Baker, architect of Lord's Second Grand Stand, bestowed the weathervane upon the Marylebone Cricket Club. This gesture served as an apology for the project's delayed completion, and now graces the limited-edition watch as a symbol of cricketing resilience and enduring legacy.
Echoing the 40mm bronze Big Crown Pointer Date of its standard brethren, the limited-edition Father Time boasts a double-domed sapphire crystal nestled within a slender fluted bezel. Its signature oversized crown at 3 o'clock ensures effortless manipulation even with gloved hands, harkening back to the watch's pilot-inspired heritage. Though both share a respectable 50 meters of water resistance, the Father Time elevates its exclusivity with a solid screw-down stainless steel caseback. This departure from the standard model's display back unveils a captivating engraving of the iconic Father Time weathervane, silently narrating the watch's cricketing pedigree.
The dial and hands of the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Father Time Limited Edition showcase core designs consistent with the standard-production watches. The cathedral-style handset mirrors the one found in the core-collection 40mm bronze models, including the small red accent on the date-indicator hand. While maintaining the layout of the regular Big Crown Pointer Date watches, this Limited Edition distinguishes itself with a white dial and black printing, setting it apart from its siblings available in green, brown, bordeaux, or blue. The hands and outer date track are equipped with Super-LuminNova for enhanced visibility.
The Oris Pointer Date Limited Edition is powered by the Oris 754, a Sellita-based caliber also utilized in the Big Crown collection. Oris has implemented some modifications to the movement, incorporating their own rotor and finishing touches. The Oris 754 boasts 26 jewels and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), providing a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
The Time Limited Edition is offered as a set with two different strap/bracelet options, accompanied by a spring bar tool to facilitate easy swapping between them. It is presented on a seven-link bronze bracelet and includes an additional deer leather strap with a bronze buckle. The Oris Pointer Date is limited to 1,926 numbered pieces priced at CHF 2,950 which is equivalent to 12,400 AED.
