A Limited Edition Merging Horological Precision with Artistic Brilliance
Laurent Ferrier has always been dedicated to crafting timepieces that seamlessly blend horological precision, functionality, and aesthetic refinement. To mark a milestone in its collection, Laurent Ferrier infuses the iconic Classic Micro-Rotor with a natural escapement, adding a playful and artistic dimension through a collaboration with French artist Hervé Di Rosa.
Delving into ancient mythology, artist Hervé De Rosa crafts unique shapes. The character depicted here emerges from a mythical creature that embodies the essence of mastery of time. His name is "Ah! Ah! Ah!" Depicted with twelve arms resembling a giant star or a green spider, this figure stands as a guardian not only of time but also of the nature of art.
For over four decades, Hervé Di Rosa has cultivated a body of work rooted in free figuration, shunning conventions of high art. His influences draw from realms such as comics, science fiction, and punk rock, shaping what he terms "modest arts."
The hallmark of LAURENT FERRIER is unmistakably evident in the graceful contours of the Classic case. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century pocket watches, this round stainless steel case boasts dimensions of 40mm in diameter and 11mm in thickness, embodying the brand's distinctive aesthetic codes. A notable feature is its "ball"-shaped winding crown, designed for effortless handling and enhanced user experience. The meticulously crafted design extends to the case back, which is adorned with sapphire glass, offering a captivating view of the movement within. Furthermore, the timepiece ensures water resistance up to 30 meters.
The hand-engraved dial of the Classic Micro-Rotor Di Rosa pays homage to a bas-relief created earlier by the artist and collaborators. Executed by engraver Jeanne Valentine Ulrich from the prestigious Cadranier de Genève, the dial is meticulously crafted from 18-carat white gold, continuing the artist's thematic legacy. Unlike the vibrant hues seen in Hervé Di Rosa's paintings, the dial adopts a refined palette of anthracite tones, characterized by matte and glossy finishes in subtle gradations. Displaying minimalist finesse characteristic of LAURENT FERRIER, the dial features the inscription "Ah! Ah! Ah!" and is adorned with iconic white gold assegai-shaped hands.
At the heart of this timepiece beats the caliber FBN 229.01, an automatic winding movement equipped with a natural escapement micro-rotor. This technical marvel incorporates a double direct impulse escapement on the balance wheel, a sophisticated innovation inspired by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the pioneer of modern horology. Unlike traditional Swiss anchor escapements, where the anchor imparts impulse to the balance, here the escape wheel, working unidirectionally, achieves higher efficiency. A second escape wheel complements the mechanism, alternating impulses to the balance.
The use of a silicon anchor, renowned for its lightweight and self-lubricating properties, further enhances efficiency, contributing to an impressive power reserve exceeding 72 hours. The Classic Micro-Rotor exemplifies Exclusively developed in the LF workshops.
Completing the ensemble is a Forest Green nubuck leather strap meticulously hand-sewn and lined with Alcantara, paired with a stainless steel pin buckle. The Classic Micro-Rotor Di Rosa stands as a limited edition, with only five pieces available worldwide, each priced at CHF 80,000 equivalent to 333,000 AED.
