Creativity and Craftsmanship Merge in Roger Dubuis Latest Timepiece
Roger Dubuis, the Swiss luxury watch brand, was founded in 1995 by Roger Dubuis and Carlos Dias. The brand is renowned for its high-end mechanical watches, often characterized by bold and avant-garde designs, technical complexity, and exceptional finishing. One of the popular collections from the brand is the Knights of the Round Table, a truly special timepiece. Since its first unveiling in 2013, the Knights of the Round Table collection has continuously evolved with numerous editions, always embracing bravery and innovation.
Inspired by one of the most legendary stories in British tradition, King Arthur, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Table Ronde depicts a scene that occurred regularly in the days of King Arthur and his knights. The scene features twelve knights standing at the Winchester Round Table, with drawn swords pointing at the center of the table.
In its latest edition, the brand once again showcases its ability to blend compelling design elements with exceptional craftsmanship. The 45mm case incorporates a central element crafted from Titanium Damascus, setting it apart with a distinctive textured appearance. This central feature harmonizes with the traditional brushed and polished titanium components for the crown guards and the iconic notched bezel characteristic of Roger Dubuis, which includes the triple lug element. Elevated from the middle case, the bezel surrounds a sapphire ring, unveiling the 12 knights on the side. The crown, a sophisticated element, incorporates ice-blue Murano glass, a material also present in various other parts of the watch.
The Knights of the Round Table watches have always been distinguished by their unique dials. Crafting the twelve pink-gold knights is a meticulous and patient process, with each 6mm hero individually posed, expertly micro-engraved, and infused with distinctive personality. Together, they create a scene full of vibrant energy. The dial replicates the color and texture of a frozen lake. Encased by transparent ice-blue glass, crafted using the Murano method, the dial also features this ice-blue glass for the main disc and the large floating ice blocks on the lake. To achieve a powdered snow effect, these blocks are coated with biscuit Limoges porcelain. The display of time, with only hours and minutes, is facilitated by a pair of 18k pink gold hands with luminous tips.
On the reverse side, the brand highlights its expertise in skeletonized design. Drawing inspiration from the stained-glass windows of medieval castles, the blue oscillating weight is both lighter and smaller than conventional rotors, yet it maintains optimal performance. The timepiece is driven by the brand's classic movement, the in-house caliber RD 821 an automatic movement meticulously finished by hand and certified by the Poinçon de Genève. Operating at 28,800 VpH, it provides a power reserve of 48 hours.
The watch is limited to 28 pieces and features a dark blue leather strap. This timepiece includes a quick-release system and a triple-folding clasp made of titanium. The watch priced at CFH 300,000 which is equivalent to 1,260,000 AED.
