A Black Timepiece Inspired by Vintage TV-Inspired Design
The renowned Swiss watchmaker Mido continues to reintroduce its iconic collections with modern, innovative touches. Founded in 1918 and now part of the prestigious Swatch Group. One of its collections is the Multifort TV, which has seen several iterations over the years, with the Big Date model being one of the standout releases. Today, Mido presents the latest iteration of this iconic model, the “Multifort TV Big Date”, now available in a bold new black color.
The watch comes with a rectangular case of stainless steel with a durable black PVD coating. The case measures 39.2mm in length, 40mm in width, and 11.5mm in thickness. The brushed finish on the case middle and bezel, coupled with the sandblasted edges, creates a refined, modern aesthetic. The sapphire crystal is treated with double-sided anti-reflective coating for improved legibility. A see-through case back provides a glimpse of the movement inside, while the screw-down crown with guards ensures water resistance up to 100 meters. The watch’s overall design blends durability and elegance, making it both functional and stylish.
The dial of the watch features a black gradient background that gradually darkens, creating a bold contrast with the vibrant orange accents. Horizontal line decorations add texture and depth to the dial, while the round and rectangular indices, along with the hour and minute hands, are filled with orange Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in low-light conditions. A black central seconds hand maintains the dial’s minimalist aesthetic. At 12 o'clock, two large date windows provide clear date visibility, while an orange-printed minute track encircles the dial, numbered every 15 minutes for precise timekeeping. This dynamic combination of design elements gives the watch an eye-catching, functional, and distinctive look.
The watch is powered by the Mido Automatic Caliber 80 Big Date movement, operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) for reliable and precise timekeeping. With a power reserve of up to 80 hours, this movement is finely decorated with an oscillating weight adorned with Côtes de Genève stripes and the MIDO logo. Additionally, the Caliber 80 features a shock-resistant and anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring, ensuring exceptional accuracy and robustness.
It comes with a stainless steel bracelet with PVD coating, and folding clasp. Priced at CHF 1,260 approximately equivalent to AED 5,550.
